Are Charger Fans Too Over Confident?

I don't know how this survey was put together or how they got the results but Yahoo published, (and yes I know it's YAHOO) but they published a ranking of all 32 NFL teams according to fan confidence and the Chargers ranked.......#2 on the list!!!

#2??? Hmmm...are we that confident? Maybe last years turn around and playoff win got the boltage level up a little around town.

Anyway here's a link to the "survey"  http://sports.yahoo.com/photos/ranking-all-32-nfl-teams-according-to-fan-confidence-1407945050-slideshow/

More shocking on that list is the Panthers fans at 3. Talk about delusional. I mean I know they were good last year, but they had a very bad offseason. I don't care about the hype around their rookie WR either, it's easy to look good in practice when you play against one of the least talented secondary groups in the NFL, and the pass rush is not allowed to hit the QB.  All that talk is going to stop when he's asked to get open consistently in a regular season game, and he has to run actual routes not just out jump people.

I think they're in for a rough season, 6-10 maybe.

And I'm not sure what's taking so long on the Greg Hardy decision, he could be in for a 4+ game suspension.

Yeah I agree about the Panthers. Poor Cam has no supporting cast. Syx what rookies WR/RB do you like a lot? And what defense do you think is going to be solid besides the Hawks? Thanks!

WRs:
Brandin Cooks - because he has a better QB and he knows how to run routes unlike Benjamin.
Sammy Watkins - has a great chance to break 1000 yards this year if EJ Manuel steps it up.

Guys llike Evans, Benjamin, Lee, Matthews, Beckham jr etc... you should expect to see in the 500-700 yard range, 3-6 TDs, not guys I want to count on in fantasy.

RBs:
Terrance West - He's already better than Ben Tate. I really wanted us to draft him before we signed Brown.
Carlos Hyde - Unfortunately he's a little buried on the depth chart, but he's on the perfect team in the perfect scheme.
Tre Mason - Could be this year's Geo Bernard if used properly.

Some under the radar defenses I like... Baltimore, Cincinnati, St Louis, and Houston (although their offense will undermine them).

Re: Are Charger Fans Too Over Confident?

Over confident?

Depends. If you're talking fans calling for undefeated and automatic SB. Then yes over confident.

However, if you're talking fans believing they can again be competitive this year, then no. I'd say SD fans have a right to feel confident in this team to do just that.

Rivers is still the guy here. Floyd, Gates and Royal still productive and Green and Allen a year better.

Mathews Nd Woody back with an OL that ummm, is returning all but one stater (whom many feel was the weak link anyway) healthy currently.

Defensively you have questions but look. This secondary can't be any worse than the one they fielded last season.

DL is young but not horrible by any means. Need to figure a few things out but they should be alright.

LB group like the secondary can't be any worse than last year. Especially with a few additions and guys staying healthy.
It's not about how many times you get knocked down.  It's whether or not you are willing to get back up.

Really it's hard for me to even think past the regular season, the only goal is to GET TO the playoffs, anything past that seems like pipe dreams.

If we get to the playoffs we can absolutely win the Super Bowl, or just as easily get bounced in game 1. It's all about getting to the tourney, being healthy, and taking it day by day.

Right now the only expectation I have for this team is get to 10 wins.  We have a near elite QB, a strong running game, plenty of weapons, a good O-line, and a defense that should be at least AVERAGE this year. Regardless of schedule there is no excuse not to be in the playoff hunt.

Re: Are Charger Fans Too Over Confident?

Trying very hard to not be the 'Debbie Downer' on this one, I believe that in a few specific areas, some of us are getting WAAAYYYYYY over confident.

Everything I read says that Troutman and/or Watt are vying for the playing time at RG until the Human Turnstile gets back from injury. If that truly is the way the coaching staff is looking at it, we will eventually have problems on the O-line to deal with. Clary is just plain horrid.

M80's return makes us much stronger at the WR position. But he simply does not stay healthy. Can anyone recall the last time he made it through an entire season without missing any playing time? I can't. That leaves us wondering who steps in opposite Allen when the inevitable injury occurs. Unlike a bunch of fine folks around here, I believe that Brown sticks (mainly due to the brilliance he showed his rookie year.) But Brown is not Floyd which creates a sizable drop-off in production.

We are STILL living in a post-Jamal world at NT. I honestly thought we would have addressed this earlier in the draft, but the coaching staff and administration must view it differently than I do. And when you add Reyes year of regression into that mix, we still have major question marks on the D-line.

Our corners were, quite possibly, the worst in the NFL last year. And while I agree with most folks around these parts that Beach is eek1 as pertains to Verrett, it is still questionable how well this season's group will perform. 'Worried' does not define this area properly.

I hope Addae proves to finally be the help Weddle has needed for so long, but I am not holding my breath.

That leaves the strengths: RB, TE, QB, and LB.

I believe this team has the potential to be damned good. I just don't like counting the chickens until they are hatched.noidea

Re: Are Charger Fans Too Over Confident?

Well 'Debbie LOL,' you have Valid concerns, especially on the D-Line, I am impressed with Tenny so far but a season
Doesn't make, with returning folks from the (I) front, new pieces on the D, and I believe our Offesive jaugernaut will be Enough to keep us in games until nexts years FA money and draft can finalize the pieces needed on Defense!
RG should be fine, remember Couch D is running that show and I seriously doubt Clary is anything but a B/U
Now unless someone gets hurt, or he wouldn't agreed to such a Huge pay cut!

Re: Are Charger Fans Too Over Confident?

The magic goal here is 3-1. Meaning for every quarter of the season can the Bolts go 3-1.

First quarter of this season I can see them easily being 3-1

Cards
Bills
Jags

I can see wins for.

Seahaeks obviously could be the L there.

Jets
Raiders

Even though the raider are always hard due to division you have to favor SD.

KC
Den

Are toss up games so SD can easily be 2-2 or 4-0 here. 2-2 is most likely but SD can beat all 4 teams. Yes, even the Broncos. People fail to realize just how good the chargers are vs the Manning brothers.

Phins
Raiders
Rams

I can see SD taking but again the raiders are always a hard division draw.

Ravens

Are still a pretty decent team and can be a toss up game as well. But SD can again easily be 3-1 in this 4 week matchup.

The final stretch will be the most difficult because all 4 are not only playoff contenders but also teams that you can SD lose anf beat depending on the situation.

To me the last four game is like a 2-2 record.

Which at worse case scenario SD is sitting 8-8 to 10-6. Best case is 12-4. I lean more toward 9-7 or 10-6 honestly.

Of course this is barring major injuries to key individuals.
It's not about how many times you get knocked down.  It's whether or not you are willing to get back up.

Re: Are Charger Fans Too Over Confident?

If Clary starts the season on the bench and the rook or troutman play well I don't see the point in making that change. You don't mess with good chemistry and I doubt the coaching staff will either.

I think Beach's boy Inman will be the guy that takes it if M-80 goes down and as long as Rivers Stays clean. He has proven he can produce with lesser WR. But I do believe Inman will be an impact player regardless.

Re: Are Charger Fans Too Over Confident?

Nice stats T, 11-5 is very doable if guys stay Healthy, the other big problem is where does Denver finish?
Do I think we can take this division? If key guys stay Healthy I say yes only because we have proven we can
Beat Peyton. I just don't know if a wild card comes out of the West again!

Re: Are Charger Fans Too Over Confident?

Personally, I'm NEVER too over-confident about my sports teams. In actuality, I'm quite the opposite. Always. To the point where I say far less on this site than I would simply because I know people on here who would take issue with my brand of Charger pessimism.

I see us as an 8 - 8 team, mostly because of our defense and lack of depth if any significant (and expected) injuries occur.

I'm hopeful, but I'm definitely not "over" confident. I'm not even "under" confident.

I guess I'm just perpetually con.

Re: Are Charger Fans Too Over Confident?

Well, I first read the information to the right that describes how they tallied their "scores".  And based on just what they stated there, it sounds like all they did was search for each teams' name across the majority of the interwebs.  If that is the case, many of San Diego's (as well as each other team's, too) mentions could have been something like "The Chargers really suck, man!"

In which case, the Bolts could actually be anywhere on this goofy list.

And as a matter of fact, given all the "The Chargers will always suck as long as Rivers is there" crappola I read on a regular basis, my guess is that a sizeable portion of their mentions are indeed negative ones.  In which case, all this list indicates is that a lot of people really hate Philip, which is nothing new.

I don't feel over confident.  I feel like we have a chance to get back into the playoffs again.  Our best opportunity was Marty's final season.

im calling 10 wins +/- 1, im not sure if that gets us a wildcard thought this year but we'll see. We have a diificult schedule so i would be happy with 10 wins

Ya, I know it's only a preseason game. However, I think my biggest fear was on display tonight against the Seahawks: A soft defense (Pagano??????).

Yup. I see an 8 - 8 team (which I stated before tonight's game).

Pagano is on the hot seat this year no doubt about that.
