Cowboys at Chargers - Preseason Game #1

Just thought I'd get this going. Maybe we'll have some thoughts before the game begins. I'll be on a plane to Vegas during the game so I'll have to catch up in between hands of poker! tongue

Re: Cowboys at Chargers - Preseason Game #1

It sounds like both teams are going to have a number of backups starting, and of course playing almost the entire game.  That's always fun for serious fans of the two teams (like most of us biggrin), but I doubt anybody else around the league will care.  Not that that matters to me.

CHARGERS:
OLB Jeremiah Attaochu
OG Chris Watt
CB Alden Darby
CB Chris Davis
RB Marion Grice
WR Tevin Reece!!!!

WR Dontrelle Inman
DE Damik Scafe

ILB Manti Te'o
CB Steve Williams
TE LaDarius Green

COWBOYS (drafted players that I thought would make good Chargers):
FB J.C. Copeland
OG Zack Martin

And whatever happened to Craig Watts, he had Ignigma written all over him, This could very well be Tevin's coming out party, report this morning on Verrett:

McCoy would not say if Verrett would play on Thursday in San Diego’s exhibition opener against Dallas, but it seems unlikely the Chargers would want to trot him out if he’s not fully healthy. For the Chargers, the goal remains getting Verrett to the regular-season opener at Arizona on Sept. 8 fully healthy.

Anxious to see how the new offseason F/A additions and the draft class perform. Of course the team is going to err on the side of caution with Verrett and not let him play which is smart.

Although Witten won't be in long (if at all), I'm looking forward to seeing how Pagano's D handles TE coverage.

Thanks Vise! Though I've not yet put $ on a game (football). I know a few folks on here have (or...might). surprised

I generally fly into Vegas because all of my trips on Southwest seem to magically have to fly into and then out of Vegas. I'm happy that this time my trip IS Vegas. Woo hoo!

Cant wait for thursday! I am concerned about flowers and watt. Anyone find any specifics on injuries? I know flowers is left knee and watt is head/neck. Serious?

Re: Cowboys at Chargers - Preseason Game #1

Here you go Joe:

Chris Watt was locked in to start Thursday’s exhibition opener.

The only thing that could’ve stopped him may have Tuesday.

The Chargers rookie guard suffered an undisclosed injury midway through practice during a short-yardage run. James Collins, head athletic trainer, held Watt’s helmet when escorting him off the field, the third-round pick not resurfacing for the final hour of the morning session.

Injury specifics were not immediately available.

Medical staff spoke to Watt, 23, for several minutes before he walked off the field under his own power. Johnnie Troutman took starter reps in his place at right guard.

“We’re evaluating him,” coach Mike McCoy said of Watt shortly after practice. “I’ve got to talk to James right now actually to see how he’s doing.”

If Watt is sidelined Thursday night against the Cowboys, he won’t be alone.

Cornerback Brandon Flowers has missed the past five practices with a lower leg injury, and cornerback Marcus Cromartie has dealt with a groin injury for the past week. They did some running to the side Tuesday but won’t play Thursday. Cornerback Jason Verrett (shoulder) continues to practice in a red jersey and is similarly not expected to face Dallas at Qualcomm Stadium.

Five Questions (Bolts From the Blue):

http://www.bloggingtheboys.com...s-from-the-blue

BTB: Who will not play in the game on Thursday?

BFTB: Jason Verrett and Brandon Flowers are both out. Vincent Brown is out as well. DE Corey Liuget is out, and Chris Watt (who is trying to win the starting RG spot as a rookie with Jeromey Clary still recovering from surgery) is probably out after a head/neck injury at practice yesterday.

Yantha, lots of new players need to show why they belong on the team or practice squad.

Would have Been nice to see who they would have stuck on Bryant.

T. Smith is a very good test for the weakside rusher.

Definitely looking forward to KR and PR.

Definitely want to see the DL depth.

Want to see Becton and the other Watt in action.

Good luck to all these guys Vying for job.
It's not about how many times you get knocked down.  It's whether or not you are willing to get back up.

Re: Cowboys at Chargers - Preseason Game #1

Kind of sad to say, but the BIGGEST thing I look for in the first game of the preseason is for everyone to get out of it healthy.
I know it's a big opportunity for those fringe guys who are looking to make the roster, but let's face it.... most of those guys are not going to play prime rolls during the season, so health is the key for me. >.<

Re: Cowboys at Chargers - Preseason Game #1

I want to see how the offense under Reich is run. Word is we want to give more control to Rivers and open up a little . I want to see Tevin Reese in his first game as a wide out not a kick returner though it will be fun to see who trots out there. Would not be suprised if its Donald Brown on kick offs. I also want to see Grice in action and monitor the oline. Kellen Clemons to me has the edge over Sorenson at QB, lets see how their stats compare afterwards.

On defense I want to watch Attaochu,Ingram and other LB's rush the passer. I dont think we will see Verrett nor Flowers but whomever has a good game at corner could elevate themselves into the starting lineup(Williams, Wright, Marshall). Adai should start next to Weddle at safety but Gilchrist can make a bid with a good game.

Thrill, glad to hear that you think Addae should start,
Question, are you a season ticket holder and your thoughts on full price on Preseason Games, Going tonight?
My thoughts are season ticket holders should get a break for the loyalty.
