HOF eligible 1st time as members of the 2015 class: Junior Seau

I was just reading the list of HOF eligibility for the 1st time as members of the Class of 2015: QB Kurt Warner LB Junior Seau OL Orlando Pace are a few of the big names.

I would believe Junior is a shoe in and if so I'm sure he would go in as a Charger, right?

Wow! Who is going to speak on his behalf? Too bad Junior couldn't be around for such a special honor. He would have loved it, giving an emotional and motivational speech was definitely something he lived for during his time.

Yes.  Junior will ascend to the Hall quickly.   Who should represent him?   A coach, a player, or a family member?

My guess is the closest thing to Junior might be his son.   But again when we held his San Diego Memorial there were players like Fouts and Tomlinson there to help.   I would love to see Bobby Ross present him.     No matter who does he really deserves the accolade ... i just wish he were here to do it himself.

I would be shocked if he didn't make it first time up. Prior to the other future HOF who donned 21 in Charger blue, June aka buddy was the Chargers.
It's not about how many times you get knocked down.  It's whether or not you are willing to get back up.

A slam-dunk, no brainer on Junior. I would hope the Seau family asks LT or Bobby Ross to speak on Junior's behalf. I agree with thrill on this one.

RIP #55...We miss you buddy

He WILL go in first ballot. The NFL, very unike MLB, usually doesn't make idiot mistakes as pertains to venerating the past. I would think that Rodney will also be considered as the individual to make the speech. Just a hunch.

Does Canton have a video montage for the players behind them before they speak?

If they do then I'd have to imagine the one behind whom ever speaks on behalf of Junior would include comments he might have made over the years when being asked about the Hall of Fame. Surely the questions came up to him during his career.

I think that all the possible speakers mentioned make sense. The event is a celebration so I hope that the pall of Junior's loss does not hang over the ceremony and the committee does a good job of making it about the human connections, personal bonds and joy that Junior brought to others and not just a melancholic reminiscence.

I have always enjoyed your comments. This is prime example of why. Well written, NY.cheers.gif

Thank you redlegman!  Like-wise cheers.gif

One of the things I love about our community of fans here is that we're big enough to carry the discussions and yet small enough so that our posts don't get lost in a sea of chatter.  It allows for a more personal family/friends type feel (as much as can exist on the interweb... haha).

I've never been to Canton, but I may have to try and get out there next year when Junior is inducted.

Absolutely Junior deserves a first ballot entry into the HOF.  I think that coach Ross should speak on his behalf.

Does anyone know when LT will be eligible?

8-4-14
Good morning. Scott Kacsmar of Football Outsiders predicts that former San Diego Chargers linebacker Junior Seau will be part of the 2015 Pro Football Hall of Fame class, the first year he’s eligible for induction.

Kacsmar: “This first-ballot case is a slam dunk. Seau made 12 consecutive Pro Bowls, six first-team All-Pro selections, the 1990's All-Decade Team and is universally regarded as one of the best linebackers in NFL history. He was the main attraction in San Diego. My earliest memory of Seau is the 1994 AFC Championship Game in Pittsburgh. Some still exaggerate that he had 20 or 25 tackles that day, because it felt like he was in on every play. He had 16 official tackles and the Chargers pulled off the upset.”

On an emotional standpoint, Rodney would be perfect, Warriors together, and Rodney is well Rodney.
#1 on my list of worst player releases!

I believe Tomlinson is set for 2017 votes.

It would be great to see both Harrison and June go in on the same class

T, I agree with you on the hall on Rodney, but I was thinking of him actually speaking for Junior, what do you think?

That's one of the biggest reasons why I think it would be great to see these two teammates go into the Hall together.

Not only would Rod get to celebrate his own greatness but what better ending then to have two guys that went into battle together day in and day out for years to be honored on the same day.

And who better to speak on Budfy's accomplishments then some that was there witnessing it in person while stamping out his legacy.

Re: HOF eligible 1st time as members of the 2015 class: Junior

I still say that Seau was the best player I ever saw play for the Bolts, and that dates back to the early 70s.  Since I didn't see Alworth (or any others before my time), I can't argue against anyone that mentions either him or one of his contemporaries.  But in all of my years, Seau sits at the top of the list to me.  He is still the only player in NFL history to lead a Chargers organization with decades of very little success to the Super Bowl.

And he did so as a middle/inside linebacker (a far cry from the position players who normally do such things).

There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that he enters the Hall of Fame next year.
