Not sure there was a worse pick in the last 15 years.

Re: 3 years and 5 snaps later, Mouton is released.

That was a stellar Charger career!

Chargers waived ILB Jonas Mouton.

After releasing their 2009 first-round pick OLB Larry English on Tuesday, the Bolts let go of their 2011 second-rounder in Mouton. They cut him with the failed physical designation. Mouton is coming off a torn ACL and spent two of his three seasons in San Diego on I.R. He should be nearing 100 percent. Mouton doesn't play special teams and can't stay healthy, a recipe for career failure.

Play every down like the season's riding on it !

Like English he could never beat his injuries.  He was waived because he simply failed the physical from his injury of last year.

Wow, and I had hopes he'd be our starting ILB=)  Most Charger fans were scratching their heads w/ this pick - and I was even teased by my Michigan friends.  Who was it on here that recently said they thought he'd make a difference this upcoming season?

And while we're at it I sure do hope whoever the imbeciles are who scouted the likes of English, Mouton, and Buster Davis are no longer employed either!! Sorry Kiwi. Got nothing but love for ya brotha, but we all know you think AJ "Lord of No Rings" Smith walks on water. The drafting of Mouton in the 2nd round was done out of sheer arrogance and stubborness and was a slap in the face to all Bolts fans everywhere! An absolute waste of a pick!!

I was waiting to hear that Mouton would be released.  Absolutely terrible pick by AJ.  TT is cleaning house while upgrading the personnel.  I love it.

Re: 3 years and 5 snaps later, Mouton is released.

i wont name names, but there were a handful of people on this board that got stuck into those of us who hated this pick, and their reasoning was that because our special teams play was so bad the year prior we needed to address it. Cant disagree there, but you dont use your 2nd round pick on a ST player, even i get that. OK i will name one person tongue Its a shame SCT isnt around to take his crow on this one, he berated me quite hard over this pick, but there were several others who thought the same as well............

Re: 3 years and 5 snaps later, Mouton is released.

Worst picks of AJ's career (IMO)

1. Jonas Mouton - 2nd round pick, played 5 snaps.
2. Buster Davis - Late 1st round pick, caught 51 balls over 4 seasons, is no longer in the NFL.
3. Larry English - Mid-1st round pick, 5 seasons, only 9 starts, 11 sacks, IR'd 3 times.
4. Anthony Waters - 3rd round pick, 13 career tackles. (was our compensation pick for Drew Brees)
5. Sammy Davis - Late 1st round pick, only reason this is 5 is because he AJ promoted to GM after John Butler's death literally 2 weeks before the draft. So it's hard to give him full blame. Still a huge flop.

Other notables:
CB Antoine Cason (late 1st)
OT Courtney Van Buren (3rd)
FB Jacob Hester (3rd and future 2nd)
K Kurt Smith (6th)
RB Gartrell Johnson (4th) - Was waived in his 1st camp.

Well that's all for the AJ Smith whipping hour, maybe tomorrow we can get into his disastrous fortes into Free Agency! So happy we have Telescopo now.

Re: 3 years and 5 snaps later, Mouton is released.

Okay so now note the good players he brought in.

Rivers, Tomlinson, Gates, Mathews, VJ, Butler, Floyd, Weddle, Luiget and many more.  How many GM's can say they had 2 HOF players on their team at the same time and Gates and LT are definitely HOF candidates.  Hate tends to narrow your vision and not see the forest for the trees.

Funny how so many of those hate AJ but love Schottenheimer.  Yet Marty had some of the best talent of any of the Charger coaches and he did nothing with it.  Sure his regular season record was good but he was a playoff choker.  Still he seems forever to get a pass while AJ still gets the hate.  noidea

As far as Mouton is concerned I'm not going to put a guy down who had his career derailed because he was injured while playing.  Each time he worked hard to come back from each injury.  You shouldn't fault a guy for that, and I think it's small to do so. Jonas' effort and work ethic has been beyond reproach and his injuries weren't done off season or off the field.  They happened while he played trying to make the team.

AJ had his ups and downs, it was his arrogance that screweded up a lot good things

Re: 3 years and 5 snaps later, Mouton is released.

Wasnt he the leading tackler in the Big10 the year he came out of school? I can definitely see taking a guy that was the leading tackler in a major conference.....Really cant fault a guy for that....And I definitely find fault in a lot of what AJ did, and his attitude, and his snide demeanor of doing things, like" watch this, ill show them, ill pick sammy davis over polomalu, watch what happens" or " buster davis or calvin johnson, you'll see, trust me, I found Gates undrafted".... it was that arrogant i know more than everyone, and refusal to draft the best safest bet, instead choosing to go the releatively unknown projects, totally convinced they would pan out better, for the sole reason that he himself picked them.....it is lunacy.

However comma Rivers, Gates, VJ, Floyd, Turner, Sproles, Merriman, Weddle, Ingram, Butler, etc were all good picks, and credit is given where its due. I dont fault him so much for the Mouton pick, because I can almost guarantee, every single person on this forum would take a draft pick on the leading tackler of a major football conference, it should have been a safe pick, but injuries are a mother effer.....

I would rather fault AJ for English over Matthews, Busted over Johnson, Davis over Polomalu, trading a second rounder for Chambers, letting VJ walk, letting Sproles walk, letting Turner walk, and everyone forgets that he was our SECOND 2nd round pick, Gilchrist was picked before him...So our draft was Luiget, Gilchrist, Mouton, before the 3rd round. Hindsight being what it is, we ould have traded one of those second rounders, and came away with justin houston, but i dont see anyone either after Luiget, or after Gilchrist in the first or second rounds, that would have made our team better......

AJ arrogant and stubborn?  I thought TT was the arrogant and stubborn one.
