Eddie Royal takes hit at practice...ambulance on field

More good news.

ohlord

Eddie Royal has been loaded onto gurney, lifted into back of an ambulance, which is about to drive away. McCoy will update after practice.

The ambulance has driven onto the field for Eddie Royal.

Eddie Royal was walking to athletic trainer's room. Stopped midway. Athletic trainers been working with him there since.

Some teammates have approached Eddie Royal with concern. See what looks like an oxygen tank being used for him.

Why do we even F'n bother playing this year? This is bullshit.

Actually they have been getting all the "breaks". Just not the ones you want to hear about.

Michael Gehlken ‏@UTgehlken 29s
Mike McCoy on Eddie Royal: "For precautionary reasons, we took him to the hospital to make sure he's OK."

Coughing blood is not a great sign.  Pulmonary contusion with maybe a rib fracture comes to mind.   Lets hope he is ok.  Anybody get the name of the snake that is biting the Chargers @ss?

Per league source, all signs so far are good for Eddie Royal. Chargers are waiting for more info. All initial tests were negative.

If there was ever an opportunity for Eddie Royal to turn his career around, this is the year, especially with two guys down already. Maybe he was trying to go up and beyond his normal effort level to embrace this opportunity.

Let's hope he's okay.

Eddie Royal did suffer a concussion in the incident at practice today, the team said. Bruised lung, concussion, no structural damage

This sounds like good news to me doc.

Now that we know Eddie Royal is ok, we can say Shareece Wright might be the most dangerous defender in the NFL. (Coincidence. But crazy.)

It was.

SDBR's Training Camp Report: 8/17

The Chargers practiced in front of their fans for the final time on Saturday at Chargers Park. There were significant changes in the way the team worked on special teams, a positive step that was undercut when punt returner Eddie Royal was hospitalized. Get a full breakdown of everything that happened in our new training camp report. Read More...

Brian was at today's practice and has a complete report of everything that went down, including Royal's injury. This story is a free one, too, for our non-subscribers.

Well Sxywine,, is it time to panic yet?   Alexander- gone for the year,  Floyd- gone 6 weeks , Royal- TBD.  That leaves a gimpy Vincent Brown and a rookie Keenan Allen starting backed up by Michael Willie -essentially a rookie,  Robert Meacham- an expensive veteran project.   Brian DePalma- a promising free agent, and now Ayirotutu another free agen as the front runners to make the team.

I am right now envisioning a 3 fold best case scenario for our offense...

1.  Zone rushing attack -  Mathews made his college career in this type of scheme, and he has looked AT HOME in it in the last 2 weeks.  Pending health (as always) I would not be shocked to see him put up 5 ypc all year long. Woodhead is also coming out of a zone scheme in New England, he's an extremely versatile weapon like Sproles.  With Fluker and Clary on the right side I can see our run game being very good all year long, and actually setting up more 2nd and 5's  and 2nd and 4s than we ever saw with Norv....making Rivers' job easier.

2. TE's - Nobody is talking about it but Gates is running great right now, he looks smooth and quick again, I think he's going to have a monster season.  Also John Phillips and LaDarius Green in particular are having great pre-seasons.  Regardless of our WR situation we could run out a bunch of 2 TE sets and create matchup advantages like the Pats do...making Rivers' job easier.

3. Passing scheme - Accuse me of wearing rose colored glasses thats fine, but I think this 3 step drop 3WR 1TE 1RB scheme is ideal for the talent we have.  Rivers has never had a particularly strong arm, and this scheme is designed to hide that by not asking him to live 40 yards down field like he used to.  Our OT's are not great at pass blocking, and this scheme is designed to protect them by taking away the long outside rushing lanes....making Rivers' job easier.

I feel like if Rivers can get comfortable with the footwork and timing, and our running game keeps moving the way it has...we definitely have a good offense this year IF WE CAN JUST STAY HEALTHY.

BTW Floyd is practicing on the sideline already.  Where did you hear 6 weeks?crazy
