Hopefully he took his warehouse of illegally prescribed pills with him.

According to the team's website from Lobo's post Chao is having back problems and also wants to spend more time with his family.

The real issue is finding a suitable replacement. Hopefully the front office continues to do its due dilegence like in the case with Tommy and Mike.

His replacement was named at the same time as Chao's announcement.  It is someone named Christopher Wahl.

Re: Chao steps down!

Dr Wahl is the head of sports medicine at UCSD and is a very experienced  Orthopedic Surgeon . He came here in 2012.  I looked him up and he used to be in Seattle and treated a lot of the U of W athletes.   I looked up his credentials and this guy is top shelf!!!

He's gotta be the same guy then. My nephew played for the.huskies a while back going through grossmont college and when he actually got his shot blew out his right knee. After rehab he blew out the left. Not to long after that his mom (my oldest sister) passed and he put off football and school to help take care of family. I feel.bad for him cause he really had talent but sometimes things in life send you in a different direction. But I can vouch for how well the good Dr is.

Bolts Notebook: 6/17

A veteran running back is ready and willing to come to San Diego ... will Tom Telesco make the deal? Also, how safe is Jeromey Clary at right guard? And will some new faces help the Chargers finally shake the injury bug? These answers and more inside. Read More...

A new team doctor ... a new strength and conditioning coach ... and the Chargers have already gotten one devastating injury out of the way (Melvin Ingram) and recovered nicely (landing Dwight Freeney). Nowhere to go but up!

Re: Chao steps down!

Just as we thought, there was more to Chao's departure than the spin given in the papers.

"Two San Diego hospitals decided not to allow (Chao) to perform surgeries there anymore — a move that...jeopardized his job with the team."

"I have been informed that Dr. Chao has lost his surgical privileges with the only two hospitals he had surgical privileges with: Scripps Mercy (Hospital) and Scripps (Memorial Hospital)," wrote attorney Marc Stern in a declaration submitted to the court in relation to a lawsuit against Chao. "This has led, apparently, to Dr. Chao resigning his position with the Chargers. This will also inevitably lead to the closure of … Dr. Chao's surgical practice."

Whatever the reasons, I'm SO glad he's gone.

Upon receipt of this news, Dr. Chao stated, "In retrospect, maybe I shouldn't have stopped writing all those illegal prescriptions for the hospitals' administrators noidea."

Re: Chao steps down!

Uh, Shoe, didn't you get this information from a paper? I think you meant "the spin Chao and the Chargers gave the papers."

The reporter who broke this used to work for the U-T. And while he was at the U-T he did a pretty great job exposing the issues with Chao (DUIs, pills, med board, etc.)

Interesting how the "new" U-T (Fox News San Diego) didn't bother to follow up on this today. Editors are overly sensitive to following stories (especially when they get scooped by a former employee), but all they would have to do is go to the courthouse and look up the same document.

I think that says a lot about the current state of our local paper. It's obviously a newsworthy story, but the U-T isn't publishing it. Why?
