Dr. Chao Singled Out By NFPLA Executive Director!!!
NFLPA executive director, DeMaurice Smith, referring to Dr. David Chao, says Chargers players "deserve to have a doctor not found liable of malpractice." DeMaurice Smith singled out Dr. Chao during an NFLPA press conference.
WOW!!! So obviously it isn't just us fans who have concerns about Chao and he is now becoming the poster boy for change in the NFL on how teams hire and certify their team doctors. Supposedly Smith wasn't asked about Chao and brought him up himself as to why the NFL needs to change it's practices in regards to team physicians.
Also read NFLPA survey question: Do you trust your team medical staff? 78 percent of players say "Not at all."
Hopefully this leads to Chao being kicked to the curb. Good news for the players!!! Don't have a link to the story, have to run...

I've been railing about this for years.
Know somebody reliable who has interacted with Chao and that somebody said there's little doubt Chao is pill-crazy.
The FO obviously has a double standard for its player and non-player personnel.

Nick Hardwick on NFLPA/DeMaurice saying Chao should be removed "I can speak on my behalf. I trust Dr. Chao." Just another reason Hardwick needs to be replaced.

Targetting Chao like this could actually have the reverse affect. Even if the new FO was considering a change in the medical personnel, this could see them retain Chao just so they don't give the impression that the NFLPA bullied them into it.

Well, Chao's DUIs, drug problems, malpractice suits and issues with the state medical board have all been perfectly fine with the Bolts FO. This is just another chink in the armor. Deano won't be bullied into anything, but he is just staying on message regarding David Chao and the message is this: "Dean Spanos and the San Diego Chargers tolerate the abuse of opioid pain killers." I know you are joking Hardwick just had good results on the surgeries that Dr Chao performed on him so of course he supports him. It will be interesting to see what happens here but I think it is the beginning of the end for Dr Chao. Just another reason Hardwick needs to be replaced. Yep, this situation points to a much larger issue, indeed THE issue with this team in recent years. This team has needed for some time one guy at the top of the ladder who is unquestionably in charge of everyone and everything else. No more making decisions based on what a group of players personally want (keeping a head coach or members of the "Great Guy" offensive line just because they're well liked, as just a couple of examples). No more making decisions based on how some think a group of fans will react. And most importantly, not even making decisions just because he knows the owner leans that way. If Chao is a problem, then do what's right. If many of us are all wrong, and he does a good job, then once again, do what's right. Same thing with everything else. Do the Bolts now have this guy in place? I guess we'll find out in time. ---

Dr Chao got exonerated by 3 doctors and Charger players vouch for him  if the state of CA are looking to get this guys licence revoked and the fact our team suffers more than the average season ending injuries every year....shouldnt we just get a new team doctor!? link Mark Hunt Vs Junior Dos Santos UFC 160

Seriously, who gives a rat's bum what the players think. These are the same players who begged Spanos to keep Norv this past year. Out with the old, and in with the new. Mr. Chao must go. Half these Chargers players would be shocked if they were on another team, at the level of PREPARATION that takes place on a weekly basis. It's all perspective. Those who live in LA think it's HOT, until they've travelled to India......  |

What the players think makes all the difference in the world and not really a good comparison regarding Norv. They liked Norv because he was a " players coach" and did look out for their interests along with treating them like men however this did not result in team success. With Dr Chao this has everything to do with how he has treated the players injuries. The guys who had successful surgery as well as other treatment of nonsurgical injuries support the guy. If their were alot of players with failed surgeries or poor treatment you would have heard about it. I am not taking a position on this matter but do know that if he had bad surgical outcomes as well as treatment of other injuries just regarding the players he would have been gone already.
