Joe D'Alessandris from Bills is new offensive line coach.
Welcome. http://www.chargers.com/news/a...9d-bd0cb6b7c596I'll give the new decision makers credit for one thing. They sure do know where the biggest failures of this team were in recent years. Now whether their decisions to fix them work or not, well... I guess we'll all find out in due time.

really glad to get a new o-line coach I was worried that Hunter would talk up the guys we have in house. Now a new eye will see where the problem lies and we have a chance to fix the line and get the pro bowl form of Rivers back. And show our old coach that were not far from playoff contention now that he can no longer blow games we should win.

How did he do with the Bills last season?

He really improved the OLine stats over the three year period...but he ran a zone blocking scheme not a power blocking scheme. That will be interesting to watch unfold.

VERY interesting, In fact I think its a huge deal for Ryan Mathews who through college and the NFL has always played in a man-man blocking scheme. I think he can do it, but he needs to develop patience...and fast.

I could be wrong but I thought Pat Hill (former Frenso State coach) ran a zone scheme offense. syxwunine wrote:

I think this could workout in Mathews favor.
This is from the link posted above about Ryan Mathews scouting report.
A one-cut runner with breakaway buildup speed and a brutal stiff arm, Mathews was virtually unstoppable in Bulldogs coach Pat Hill's zone-blocking heavy, pro-style offense

Like the move! Let's see how a revamped line and a new coach works out for the running/passing game. No where to go but up!

The good news: It can't get any worse. Chargerhonk wrote: Like the move! Let's see how a revamped line and a new coach works out for the running/passing game. No where to go but up!

As I said in another thread, here's hoping he can recruit Andy Levitre!

Which is why we have had so many good ones as of late. Not saying he would be worth Hutchinson or Faneca type $$$, but I'd have no problem making him a top 10 or 12 paid among guards. syxwunine wrote:

I think Levitre would be a nice move but if we like Levitre and he's considered one of the better OG FA this off season. I highly doubt the Bills let him go without a fight. I see tag in his future if a long term deal isn't made.

Usually they're smaller more mobile guards, not 330lb monsters like Kris Dielman and Luis Vasquez. And I wouldn't mind paying him Josh Sitton type money either, I'm just saying lets not go into the Chris Snee, Davin Joseph range.

I assume that the 1st rounder will be either Fisher or Lane Johnson, so, Levitre would be, not only a great player from day 1, but, a guy to help the rookie on the left side. As for RG, if they don't want to keep Vasquez because of the ZBS, as you pointed out, Brian Winters would be fantastic at RG, but, to have to rookies on the left, Oy Vay!

Actually, if your wish comes true (the wish of all but a couple of us comes true, that is), and this team does get mostly new personnel to play on its offensive line, then that will be proving Norvolous's point that this team, AS IS, isn't close to being a good team. And he was right. My whole problem with Norvolous saying that is it came across as him making some big "revelation" that none of us "lower intellects" had any clue about, not that what he said was wrong. I mean, get real, Norvolous, an alien from another planet watching its first ever football game would know that there was something seriously wrong with the Bolts' offensive line and secondary. "Why are the other team's players allowed to hit that guy wearing #17 and holding the ball on every play? It doesn't seem like a good idea for the Chargers team to operate that way." "Why does #32 have to try to run to all 5 players on the other team who are spread out all over the field on every play, while his teammates seem to just wander around aimlessly? You'd think #32's teammates would help him by getting to some of the other team's players for him."
