Re: favorite prospects

I have quite a few defensive players on my mind right now, but I want OL in this draft.  It's hard to get excited about big uglies though.... and since I come from a defensive background, I'm a little biased...

1.  OT Luke Joeckel
2.  DT Star Lotulelei
3.  NT Jonathan Hankins
4.  DT Sheldon Richardson
5.  CB Xavier Rhodes
6.  NT Jesse Williams
7.  ILB Kevin Minter
8.  NT John Jenkins
9.  FS Phillip Thomas
10.  RB Eddie Lacy

I'm very disappointed that Lewan did not declare.

Re: favorite prospects

I was looking at RB's and TE's tonight and a few guys stood out to me.

2nd Round

TE Tyler Eifert 6-5/252 - I don't want them to draft a TE this high, but it would be nearly impossible to pass up on Tyler if he is there at pick 11 of the 2nd round.

3rd Round

RB Le'Veon Bell 6-2/244 - He doesn't have the ideal speed, but he is very nimble for his size. He can lower his pads and use his size to break tackles.

TE Travis Kelce 6-5/260 - I saw him pancake at least 3 people in this video.

6th or 7th round

RB Kerwynn Williams 5-8/196 - He would be an excellent 3rd down back. Great hands and speed. There are bound to be comparisons to Sproles.

Re: favorite prospects

After looking at the Kickers, the guy that stands out to me is Caleb Sturgis, whom might be available in the 7th round.

K Caleb Sturgis was 8 of 9 in FG attempts of 40+ yards and 3 for 3 in FG attempts of 50+ yards.

YEP.  This guy is definitely on my radar and if he slips to the 4th round, to me it's a no-brainier to select him to replace Randy McMichael on our roster.  I'd even take him in the third, depending on the mix of other players on the board at the time, and the positions we selected in the first two rounds.

Whisenhunt likes to run the ball...  and we need a better blocking TE than what we have, and for a big man, Kelce has good agility (in his weight class), and soft hands.

I'm a huge Kelce fan, despite he would fit perfectly in a 2TE scheme with LaDarius Green being more of the Aaron Hernandez, and Kelce being the Gronk.  Eifert is a better player right now of course, but I don't want to go TE in the 2nd round.

I don't know that our TE need is big enough to take him in the 3rd over a OG, CB, or RB.  But if we do I won't complain.

Re: favorite prospects

Just a note on TE Kelce..

To me, I think that TE is as big of a need at Right Tackle.  If we get a rookie in there, we might need a blocking TE to stay inside and help with pass protection against the better pass rushing defenses.

And Kelce is a guy that can block!  AND he's dangerous on SCREENS as well.  I see him as a major contributor next year if we draft him, even in the third round.

I'm on the fence with what is a greater need.  LG, or Blocking TE.  Both would help our pass protection.....

It's a question of this:

Who is worse between OG Green, or TE McMichael?

McMichael is useless as a pass catcher, and he's whiffed on soooo many blocks, I can't remember how many it is now....  Also, he's terrible in special teams, and in 2011 he was responsible for almost getting Scifres career wiped out.

Re: favorite prospects

Chance Warmack
Barrett Jones
Eric Fisher
Le'Veon Bell
Theo Riddick
Margus Hunt
Nico Johnson
Arthur Brown
Dan Buckner
Tino Sunseri
Micah Hyde

I guess these are some players that I will keep my eye on through the whole process.

Re: favorite prospects

Yantha I like your pick in Kelce but from what I am hearing this draft is super deep in tight end talent. Probably can get better value in the later rounds, just like in the running back position.

I disagree with this statement, but I agree we need a TE in this draft. I would probably cringe if we took him with our 3rd depending on what we did in the 1st & 2nd.

I dont think there is any chance any of the top four will be there at pick 11 but I will be ecstatic to get Hankins, Milliner or Fisher. Lets hope the Chiefs, Eagles and Bills reach for quarterbacks like Geno Smith, Mike Glennon and Tyler Wilson.

Re: favorite prospects

Just pointing something out, so no one have a stroke. Las year at about this time, Doc Yantha was screaming for Vontaze Burfict (just as a WHOLE bunch of other people were.) Then, myriad sources started pointing out faults in Burfict and his stock dropped off of the end of the world. Marvin Lewis took a flyer and ended up with a starting LB. If Te'o's stock has an even two round drop, putting him in the third round, I hope like Hell the Chargers jump all over him. At that point, you have an ILB tandem in Butler and Te'o for a decade. I personally don't think he makes it out of the 1st round, though.

I'd take him in the 2nd, where his real value starts.

But I was always VERY VERY against taking him in the 1st, it was never a good idea even before his disastrous N.C. game and "the hoax" that rocked the world.

Re: favorite prospects

I think Teos Hoax knocked him out of the top ten and to late round one.  He wont be there at our second pick but by all means if he falls than take him.
