Manti Te'o's deceased girlfriend is a hoax!!! WOW!!!
If this is in deed true, this has to be one of the strangest stories I have ever read or heard. If Manti had anything to do with this, his legacy will be tarnished forever. Unbelievable!!!! Basically a report from Deadspin alleges that Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te'o's story about his girlfriend dying in a tragic car accident last fall was a hoax. In a detailed and lengthy investigative report, the website reportedly discovered that this is no public record of Te'o's girlfriend, Lennay Kekua, ever being enrolled at Stanford or in fact having ever existed. The report goes on to quote a woman who claims her photos were used in fake social media accounts for Kekua. Te'o said following last fall's game against Michigan State that he had played to honor of Kekua as well as his recently deceased grandmother. WTF???? kind of difficult to comment on until all the details come out.
someone isn't being honest though and either way it's not good.

BTW....All those missed tackles in the BCS Championship game...were actually Manti tackling his girlfriend.

Is he saying now that he never met her in person and was the victim of a hoax? I'm still confused aobut who was the purpetrator of the hoax. What I read on line and Te'o's latest statement doesn't mesh either, so it's interesting to see how this will all turn out. The article posted says that they met after a Stanford football game. If that is true I wonder if Te'o ever validated that in a report/interview?
I can't see him being a first rounder IF he was the purpetrator or somehow involved in the hoax.
I've seen people pull THESE KINDS of hoax's before. I'm a member of a different internet forum where a forum member posted messages as a conduit between a father and the community over a different forum member who was supposedly KIDNAPPED along with her little brother in New York City. The forum is an INTERNATIONAL forum. I was almost immediately skeptical about a father making a story public to an international forum (reaching out for help... .it simply didn't make sense) and as one of the few New Yorkers on the forum I had not seen any kind of news about the kidnapping of a 16 year old girl and her little brother. I informed the owner of the forum and it's possible that the member who was acting as a conduit was mislead by the purpetrator of the hoax. It was sad and sickening, but the news coming out now is not entirely surprising to me considering what I witnessed elsewhere first hand.

hypothetically say he was the victim of a scam and not complicit at all ... obviously it wouldn't hurt his draft status in the same way as if he has been complicit.. but would it hurt his draft status to be duped like that? It would show a great deal of naivite if not a lack of intelligence.

Would the Notre Dame team have been effected at all in the National Title game by the Te'o story? I imagine by that point if the school had finalized an investigation by January 4, that it could have leaked out to the team. Not to make excuses for the Notre Dame defense. But I would think it would have to be somewhat deflating to think that one of your team leaders may have pulled a scam like this. I expect professionals to be able to move past something like that, but I could understand it having a greater effect on 18-22 year olds.
The other thing I wonder about is if the school has been duped by Te'o as much as he was reportedly "duped" by others. Is there any kind of prosecutable crime here? I'm sure if there is the lawyers will be involved ASAP.

i dont think he scammed anyone...
i think he got 'catfished' which is becoming more and more common throughouut the internet subculture.
some maay blame it on the victim for being naive...i blame the psychopathic whackjobs out there, who come up with crazy stories to take advantage of caring people with big hearts.
have you seen the show on mtv? its a sickness that i guessv alot of people have, in order to feel people like them. i dunno, weird.
if anythiing i feel sorry for teo. he thought he was supporting someone going through cancer and let his guard down.
