Mike McCoy to be named new HC
I'll take off the question mark when it's official but from what I've heard this morning on internet sports talk radio and this is what I found this morning that Denver's OC Mike McCoy will become the Chargers new HC.
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/01/15/re port-chargers-expected-to-hire-mike-mccoy-as-head- coach-today/
Thoughts, comments, gripes, anyone? Bueller, Bueller.
As for me, if this is true I would first like to say congrats to coach McCoy for becoming the Bolts new HC. Now let's get to fixing this house and righting the ship.

Re: Mike McCoy to be named new HC?
Just heard he's already told Denver he's leaving fot the Bolts... Looks like we have our new Head Coach fellas. I'm happy as long as they can keep Pagano at DC. McCoy was starting to pick up steam as the best available candidate for many teams. http://profootballtalk.nbcspor...h-the-chargers/

Looks like Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports is reporting the same. I don't know enough about McCoy to form an opinion, but I'm glad we hired a young guy, and not a re-tread ttps://mobile.twitter.com/Jas...184829477838848

Re: Mike McCoy to be named new HC?
40 year old GM and head coach! Wow! I must be getting old, this is the first time in my life that the GM and Head Coach were younger than me. I am just a little older, but still!
I was hoping for Gruden to be honest......but McCoy has proven as a "coordinator" to be very adaptable to his environment and has been successful. Like Norv, you have another offensive coordinator taking the big step. Everyone has to start somewhere though.
My only hope is that McCoy has some fire in his belly, he shows some emotions on the sidelines, he knows how to motivate and get the most out of his players like the Harbaugh brothers do, and he has attention for detail. If he has most of that...then this is a great hire, but we have to wait and see. I wish Mr. McCoy a warm welcome! Let's see how long that lasts!

Re: Mike McCoy to be named new HC?
To be honest I am a little concerned about the hire. I understand that he adapted to Orton and Tebow but it doesn't mean the offenses were good. I believe McDaniels is the one that helped Orton become better. As far as this year, it was mostly Manning. I would have preferred Gruden as well. I just hope they aren't hiring him just because they think they can get an insight on the Broncos O.

Re: Mike McCoy to be named new HC
I've now seen multiple sources from Denver's side and Chargers and NFL people's. Jason La Canfora has it on his twitter, so does Marty Caswell from 1090's Darren Smith show. A couple of the Denver internet news reports that McCoy has already informed the Broncos that he will not be returning next year. So to you Coach McCoy. I'd like to see what they are going to do with the staff (beginning with getting us a special teams coach) I suggest Dave Toub from the Chicago Bears.

"Re: One Horse Race for Head Coach"
"I'm thinking that McCoy or Zimmer fit the new mold better than Arians. One is the Offensive side and one is the Defensive guy. That could be telling."
As I said then...not a surprise, but my only concern is that I cannot find where he has ever been the HC.
He is a California boy and a West Coast kind of guy which I think helps. He is going to be comfortable in his surroundings and that will make a smoother transition. Let's hope he is everything the new Charger FO thinks he is.

I dont know enough about the guy and will reserve judgement. I like the idea of helping our team and hurting the Donkeys all at once!!

Same here. I feel old now that I have both of them in age. Chargerhonk wrote: 40 year old GM and head coach! Wow! I must be getting old, this is the first time in my life that the GM and Head Coach were younger than me. I am just a little older, but still!

Still the biggest Charger fan in the ATL

RE: Mike McCoy to be named new HC
Has anyone heard of OC candidates? Would hate to hear that McCoy is going to be both HC and OC... IMHO that model just doesn't work...

Re: Mike McCoy to be named new HC
Mike McCoy is the second coming of Norv IMO. He is another mellow, play calling OC with a very similar personality to Norv's.
I just have to ask, will McCoy be the play caller for the Chargers like Norv was? If so, will we see questionable game management and ignorance of the defense?
This was a mistake IMO, we should of hired someone who can change the mentality of this team on offense, defense, and special teams. We need someone who would kick these sorry players butt's and get rid of the complacency at Chargers Park. I just don't see that with McCoy, but I will still ride or die with my Chargers team through the good and the bad.
Good Luck Mr. McCoy, I hope you are the real one.

Time to trade for another TT. Tim Tebow. McCoy would have the ability to go from one offense style to another. We need some mobililty and good character people.

Re: Mike McCoy to be named new HC
Wally, I hope you are wrong but suspect you may be correct.
I want a strong OC and DC or this doesn't seem much different than last year.
I liked what he did with Tebow and suspect he will get Rivers back on form. That alone will put us in playoff contention.
But surprised at the solection.
Wishing him the best but call me dissapointed at this seleciton.
