rookie impressions: Kendall Reyes

Reyes was labelled a BUST and reach by certain members of this board the day he was drafted

easy question, was he worth the second round pick?

I would say hesitantly yes. 3rd rounder I would say great pick but, he did show promise and I think he could pan out to be a solid #2 next year.

I thought that he was a great pickup for the Chargers and had a decent first year. He will be a terror opposite Liuget or in rotation with Martin and crew in the years to come.

Re: rookie impressions: Kendall Reyes

He was definitely worth the pick and looks like he will form a great tandem with Liuget for a long time to come. Think most of us were pretty happy with the pick at the time, I remember calling him one of my favorite DEs in the draft and was fairly pleased with the pick even though at the time my preference would have been Vinny Curry. Don't really remember anyone being upset at the pick except for Honk but as I recall he backed off a bit after some of us said Reyes was a good player and I think we are all satisfied with the pick now.

He played good this season, and I hope to see improvement of Reyes over the coming years.

Great pick.  He will be even better next year.  Love to have Luiget, Reyes and Ingram for years to come

Honk stop taking things personally, you werent the only one who bagged this pick C1Joe is guilty too

what Olineman was available at that time that couldve made a difference? at least now we have Liuget and Reyes as two above average bookends for at least the next 4 years

now we need two solid bookends on Offense

I don't recall anyone calling him a bust when he was drafted.  I recall many people being surprised by the pick considering our needs on the O-line.  There were some on this board who said he was a steal where we got him.

Re: rookie impressions: Kendall Reyes

He was well worth the pick.  Matter of fact many of the talking heads and draft nutz thought the kid was worthy of a late 1st round consideration.

I found it a surprise to be honest.  Not because of the need on offense but because I didn't think AJ would have gone with a DL there but considering that he probably went with BPA, it was a solid pick. While AJ is not the beloved figure around here and I can definitely understand why, he did do this franchise a solid with Liuget and Reyes whom should be starters for this DL for many years to come.  That is if the new GM doesn't turn around and become the hardball contract guy that AJ was considered.
The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist.

I am very excited about what Liuget and Reyes will do in the future and I would love to see Ohio State's Jonathan Hankins playing between them. This is why I want the new GM to fix the offensive line thru free agency.

Great selection that shows a lot of upside. Played like a first round pick and may equal Ingram impact-wise overall. The potential matched with Luiget is delightful.

I was a huge fan of the pick and still stand behind Reyes. He had a very good rookie campaign at a challenging position. Just look at Liuget's growth from yr1 to yr 2.

Absolutely agree ! Hankins is a true NT who can collapse the pocket which would fix ALOT of thinks in the secondary.

Yeah this is not true, heading into the season I think most people were as excited about Reyes as they were with Ingram.

Hell I said I thought he'd be better than Liuget, who we spent a top 20 pick on.  Thankfully both look like great picks by AJ Smith right now.

Here's the original thread with most of our views on the Reyes pick:

http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=102&f=1918& t=8946563

Looks like most people just didn't know much about him and were surprised and, of course, were preparing themsevles to be upset with the pick. Can't blame anyone for that.

Wow a bit more negative that I thought to start off, then people started warming up.

HAHA and there is me on page 4...saying he will be better than Liuget. Good find shoe.

still calling him a BUST just because you didnt know him and because he came from a small school is stupid, at at least do some research before you make uneducated opinions public

lol

I agree with that, except for when it comes to guys like BUSTer Davis.  Who should have been a 3rd round pick.
