I tend to think of this as an anomile, but it also points to our lack of toughness and commitment to the run. I really don't remember many 1st and goal from the 4 yrd line situations. Sure, there were a few, like that awful KC decision, but most are 18 yrd passes to Floyd or whoever.

There is no toughness and thats why I hate when Norv calls counter or trap plays. They take too long to develop. If we are going to run, do some fast handoff stuff that gets RM up to speed quick. I hate delays with this OL.

I'm sure no one here is surprised by this.  And, I think we have a great backfield with Matthews, Battle, McClain and Brown.  Bottomline, it's our offensive line and IMO we don't really have a great blocking TE or Hback.  We barely get anything with double tackle formation-Molk.

No, the obvious part is the offensive line sucks and is the worst in the NFL. Surprised you dont see that.

a bit melodramatic as usual, actually we are the 5th worst not the worst considering we have had a UDFA starting most of the season are you really surprised?

Aaron Rodgers has had more of a hard time than Rivers this year

if 43 turnovers in 26 games doesnt tell you who the problem is i dont know what will noidea

From 2008-2010 Peyton Manning, with the Indianapolis Colts had 45 interceptions! 45!!!

So.......if that doesn't tell you who the problem was in Indy I don't know what will noidea  sarcasm.gif

Boy that Clady kid really has made Manning look a little better huh? eek

In all fairness here, I am using facts...I apologize Kiwi...sorry. excited

no honk, although having an elite OT in Clady helps its actually the other way around Manning gets the ball out so quickly it helps his Oline

Manning also possesses one of the best pocket presence awareness in the NFL its something Rivers should learn from, if Manning can throw on the run why the hell cant Rivers?

Mannings 45 turnovers during those years and how he has rebounded is the only reason i still believe Rivers can get it turned around, but Rivers lack of arm strength is a bit worrisome

Soooo Rivers doesn't have a quick release?

Are we talking about pocket awareness or interceptions?

So Manning "rebounded" huh? So what was his problem in Indy to begin with?

No offense, but I think your criticism of Rivers would have been the same if you were an Indy fan during the time Manning threw all those interceptions too. The point being, is that Rivers, a pure pocket passer, under duress, with little offensive weapons around him, is in a dire situation and forced to make plays he probably wouldn't dream of committing if he didn't feel all this pressure every game to produce.

Manning did the exact same thing.

Rivers definitely deserves some blame...I agree....but honestly, just a few years ago he was lights out....and now he's a shell of himself. Either you believe he never had it or lost it.....or you realize that the personnel changes have had a severe impact on Rivers play, and if the Chargers get some protection, and get some weapons, Rivers too...will rebound

Manning's got great awareness and footwork is good - but I wouldn't say his arm strength is better than Rivers.  Manning also would simply not accept the protection Rivers has had to deal with not only this year - but the last 2-3.  Tonight watching Brees, as good as he is - he wouldn't be much better than Rivers behind our line.  But, then again - he's got Sproiles - maybe the best receiving RB to ever play.  I miss Sproiles much more than Brees or Turner

If it rains tomorrow in San Diego, it will be Rivers' fault, correct Kiwi?

The reason we have a poor running game is because your husband, AJ, pieced together a crap oline, traded up for a lackluster RB and has Norv Turner calling plays.

It ain't Rivers. It's AJ. AJ Smith vehemently hated our HC who had a good running game and ran him out of town. AJ replaced him with a glorified QBs coach and now you're going to blame our lack of a running game on Philip Rivers? eek1eek1eek1eek1eek1eek1eek1eek1eek1eek1

Rivers had 20 INTs last year, hes on track to equal it or beat it this year....i know its not ALL on Rivers, but its not also ALL on the Oline too

all im saying is everyone is pointing the finger at Oline and WRs when Rivers should also take half the blame

Ms Smith

Correct! Rivers has not played good this season. He has missed many opportunities when the blocking was there and receivers were open, due to over-throws, under-throws, moving out of the pocket too quickly, etc.

So Rivers is the reason our running game sucks? Is that what I'm hearing?

Anyway, if this is deteriorating into another bash-Rivers thread, I'll just state the obvious: No pocket QB would "play good" with our oline and WR corps.

no Hunter, teams are not afraid of him anymore so they bring 8 into the box, either way they stop the run OR flush Rivers out or force him into another 'mistake'

thats why Rivers cant afford to miss open TDs or throw the ball at his WRs feet, he need to go back to his gunslinging mentality

100 percent correct Honk.  You can print this and save it because I know how much it means to you when I agree with you
