Rolando McClain
Saw that Rolando McClain was released by the Raiders today. I've always been a fan of this stud ILB - and can't see why we wouldn't sign him. I personally don't really care whatever off the field issue he had - but of course that's our only focus being as we can only have "good guys". I guess I can only dream of McClain and Butler dominating. What with I'm hoping we retire Spikes, Mouton - a project doubtful to develop and I'm sorry Gachkar sucks(another ILB that can't cover a TE although that was supposed to be his specialty in pass coverage see Pitta dominating past Sunday)

Re: Rolando McClain
No. What has he done in the NFL to lead you to believe he is stud ILB? He is about as bad of a player as he is a person.

Re: Rolando McClain
Not talking about this year. Apparently - he's not fit into their defensive scheme and in DC's doghouse. See his play last year and year before that - when we played him and in particular his rookie year. You had to scheme for him toddhoopster wrote: No. What has he done in the NFL to lead you to believe he is stud ILB? He is about as bad of a player as he is a person.

I would take a chance on him. When focused and motivated he can dominate.

Re: Rolando McClain
100 tackles and 5 sacks last season. The 8th pick in the '10 draft. I can't really speak for his ability against the pass - but he shuts down your running game

Re: Rolando McClain
There's good guys and there's bad guys, and then there's downright stupidity.
McClain fired a gun next a man's head. That's not just bad, that's stupid.
I don't care if a player get's arrested for some minor offenses after partying as a 24 year old.... but to shoot a handgun? There's the line.

RE: Rolando McClain
I wouldn't mind taking a chance on him. What do the Chargers have to lose at this point? He was a major stud in college, had 100 tackles last season, is extremely physical, and is still a very talented football player. Apparently he didn't fit well in oakland's defensive scheme, so maybe playing him alongside of Donald Butler might benefit him more.

RE: Rolando McClain
Is he too much of a idiot that a great mentor like Spikes cant take him under his wing? He was a good college player and has skills though i under stands Yanthas point for sure.

Re: Rolando McClain
I wouldn't mind giving him a look as the talent is certainly there and we could use it, but if we were to bring him in I would keep him on a short leash. I think it takes more than just 1 guy to keep guys in line and I'm not sure we have enough tough, no nonsense vets to set a guy like McClain straight and keep him in line. Spikes is great and while we do have some quality guys on the team I don't think we have anyone else with the reputation like Spikes has.
I also haven't actually seen any reports saying McClain was actually released, I read that he posted some stuff on facebook and then took it down but nothing official yet. Sounds like it could happen at any minute and he has made it clear that he wants out but it's not done yet.

RE: Rolando McClain
I am seriously asking your opinion, Doc . . . do YOU think we are keeping Spikes? He MUST be the slowest linebacker in the NFL. Hell, he's 462 years old and his initials are not RL. slammer8 wrote: Is he too much of a idiot that a great mentor like Spikes cant take him under his wing? Re: Rolando McClain
Agreed Bambi. Yantha, McClain had gotten off a year ago for the gun incident in Alabama. He's kinda a Ray Lewis type - a really big thumper LB we've not had since Seau. I'm still trying to erase memories of Stephen Cooper and Spikes and our latest ILB Gachkar. Re: Rolando McClain
The attrition of defensive players is so great, the Chargers may have to sign him. Why not take a peek at the guy for a few more weeks? Maybe he'll wise up.

RE: Rolando McClain
I have little use for other teams trash, especially Raiders. Sure he had a big upside coming outta college. And if we had no other holes and plenty of cap, I'd take a look but.....

Re: Rolando McClain
Oh, he'll have a job next year, probably get a good contract. So will Vick, Smith, etc. There's always some ego out there that thinks they can resurect a carrer fouts05 wrote: Evidently, his latest incident was he popped off about coaching staff on his facebook account supposedly. Re: Rolando McClain
He hasn't been released by the Raiders, yet.
But why would we want a player that the Raider's orginazation has givin up on?
His play has dipped dramatically and is just as bad off of it...
I say no, we don't need trash from the raiders.

Re: Rolando McClain
I've heard that he would fit better in a 3-4 defense. ILB in the 4-3 is much more difficult. He essentially had to be the QB of their 4-3 defense. He wouldn't have to play as significant of a role in a 3-4. StoneKeys wrote: He hasn't been released by the Raiders, yet.

Re: Rolando McClain
No thanks. The Raiders defense is historically bad. I wouldn't want a single player on that side of the ball except for maybe Seymour.
