Today Is A Good Day.....!!!!!
Today is the day, that Norval Eugene Turner finally became an ex-head coach of the San Diego Chargers. Be it tomorrow or the end of the season, someone new is coming to town. And hopefully AJ Smith will be right along with Norv too. Can I get woot woot?

I'll believe it when I see it. He should've been fired after the Cleveland game. I don't want to hear the, Well, he's the OC excuse since our Offense is among the worst in the league.

I hate that we have 4 weak wins. I really want that top 5 draft pick to ring in the new era in 2013.
We are IMHO one of the 5 or 6 worst teams in football, and definately one of the 5 worst offenses.

No Charger loss is a good day for me. We lose, Norv stays, we sucked today. I have had better days for sure.

RE: Today Is A Good Day.....!!!!!
The worst part is that (almost) everyone knew we were on a course for failure with Norv, but Dean didn't have the cojones to do it after last season. It takes time to restart under a new HC and our FO delayed that just because we won a stupid meaningless game against the Raiders in week 17 last year.
I actually believe it's AJ more than Norv and see our HC as a lameduck extension of AJ. I'll be extremely disappointed if Smith is here for another season.

RE: Today Is A Good Day.....!!!!!
Not a huge deal. Looks like it will be a weak draft towards the top. Te'o would be nice but with as bad as our O-line is right now, I'm afraid he would be a luxury pick. I think we'll be right around that #10 area. Just look at Houston all those years of 7-9 and 8-8 and the talent they have accumulated. syxwunine wrote: I hate that we have 4 weak wins. I would be less than ecstatic if we did not improve our O-line or CBs with our 1st round pick. Te'o is a nice player...but if he's not Patrick Willis he's not worth the pick.

RE: Today Is A Good Day.....!!!!!
He's in that Willis and Lewis mold so I wouldn't be upset, especially since our LB core would be set for the foreseeable future and we could address the O-line with rounds 2-4 and CB in FA with one of the Philly corners who should become available. I agree, though, that I think O-line has to be the priority if there is a can't miss prospect available when we pick. syxwunine wrote:

IMO he definetly has the potential to be just as good as Willis and I know that is saying ALOT but this kid has improved each year and changed his body to be faster this year. The thing is, he is still just as good at stopping the run and better in coverage this year. A run stuffer, he can cover, he has good hands as well and he's a leader. I would not be diss appointed if they drafted him. They can get a good G in the 2nd. --------------------------------------------- --- syxwunine wrote: SoCalThrilla wrote: Not a huge deal. Exactly, BLG. I don't think we can fix everything that needs to be fixed in one offseason, but if we could add at least two solid O-lineman in the draft, maybe pick up another one in FA, it would give us a much better idea of how much of the offense's piss poor performance this season is on PR and how much of it is on the line. I tend to think the majority of it is on the line. You had me until you said this. If we went ILB then GUARD my wife would have to hide the pill bottles and alcohol. I agree LG is an issue, but its nowhere near as serious as RT, CB, CB, and CB again. Thats right, we need 3.
And I would argue we need to address SS and definately OLB with Phillips and Barnes being UFAs over LG. And don't expect to find a game ready Logan Mankins type prospect in round 2, if we're lucky they'll Luis Vasquez types that develop in 2 or 3 years.
Personally, if we're picking in the top 10 (as I expect to be now) I'd go with one of five players...Jarvis Jones, DaMontre Moore, Luke Joeckel, Dee Milliner, or Bradley Roby (if he declares). And Bejorn Werner wouldn't be a bad pick either....OL, OLB, or CB.

Well, maybe it's time you start analyzing a problem a bit more, Kiwi. I know Rivers has turned the ball over a lot, but this is a team sport and players have to rely on each other in order to play good. Not sure why you choose to completely ignore the problems on the oline, while everyone around including commentators on TV see the problems. If given the time ON A REGULAR basis, Rivers can get back to his old form. He has shown that in his recent games. But as long as the oline continues to have more negative than positive plays, I'm not going to expect Rivers to do wonders.

Wonders? How about if he just stops throwing the ball to the other team? That would do wonders for the Bolts chances of winning.

RE: Today Is A Good Day.....!!!!!
He definately has the chance to be a special player. He is becoming a great "5 tool" player. I don't like advocating for passing on a possible "generational" player, but I would rather use a "luxury" pick in a different way. I know that this won't be very popular, but I would like RDs. 1&2 be OL & CB. In Rd. 3 a second tier QB that could mature for a couple years and challenge when Rivers' contract expires in 3. Also, he would be an almost immeadiate upgrade as our new clipboard holder. Those clammoring for Rivers to sit a while are advocating for Whitehurst to be put in. Really?!? He was cut by Seattle. In Rivers contract year he could be traded in favor of the youngster (assuming the O-Line brings back the old Rivers). Or cut to save money if the O-Line was not the problem. Either way We'd get salary cap relief and a pick higher than a 3rd. SoCalThrilla wrote: Exactly, BLG. RE: Today Is A Good Day.....!!!!!
There were a few big name OL high pick draftees this year that didn't quite play up to the level the teams were hoping, that and the chances of getting a "game ready" CB are looking slim given our past pick history, make FA look like a lot better option, except for the fact we've given contracts to players who spend the majority of the time injured.
I know theres a positive somewhere, I'll keep looking :)

RE: Today Is A Good Day.....!!!!!
I hear the point, but at this point, I don't care where we go on the O-line as long as it's somewhere because when you factor in that Hardwick is pretty much on a year-to-year basis at this point, the only starter that I feel like is a legit starter for the foreseeable future on our O-line is Vasquez. How many of us wanted DeCastro this past draft if Ingram didn't fall to us? More than those who wanted Reiff or Martin, IMO. If we went Te'o in Round 1, a top 3 Guard in the draft in Round 2, and then an OT to compete with Clary or whatever we trot out on the left side in Round 3, I'd be okay with that as long as we addressed at least one corner position in FA and maybe one O-line position in FA. syxwunine wrote:

Sure, because that NEVER happens to any other QB, correct? Oh wait, didn't Manning have one interception, almost 2 with a much better Oline? Or how about Special teams stops giving away easy points, which seems to start this whole mess the second week in a row, now. We can barely keep a lead....we definitely can't keep trying to catch up each week. I think this is what puts Rivers under stress, trying to do more than he should.
