Must be to cover Steelers' center Justin Hartwig. One on one.

I don't get it...Goodman has been pretty darn good, we gave up a #1 to get Smith, and I'm doubting Law has very much left.

I don't mind having him here.  He's another veteran presence at the very least.  I don't expect him making a big impact, but we didn't give an arm and a leg to get him.  Maybe he could be more effective than our #3, #4 corners, etc...

I'm just worried about the future of our secondary though when that sad day comes when certain people aren't around...

Hmm.  What was the name of that Charger pest who said that you gave up too much for that undersized overated rookie CB who was at best a nickel back?  Lost next years #1 for him.

Re: Broncos signed Ty Law

This is a good move.  We only have 4 CB's on the depth chart so its not a bad idea to have a seasoned vet who can step in right away.  Smith has been banged up and we would only have 3 able bodies to play corner if one of those guys goes down.  Given the ripe age of our starters its not a bad idea to have an experienced back- up.   JWill and Phonz have been playing pretty good... i think this move is purely for depth.  Teams like the colts and saints have talented depth at WR with 3, 4, and 5 WR sets along with TEs like Dallas Clark and Shockey.  Experienced depth at CB will be important as we push through the 2nd half of the season.

It was slammer8.  He's still a pest, and still a moron.

In case you didn't know (because you don't know a football from a bocce ball), rookies struggle in the NFL all the time.  Didn't know that?  How are all your rookies doing this year, wise ass?

Our depth at CB is poor at best, and we just signed a super bowl-winning CB to be a veteran presence and take some of the heat off our younger players.  It says right in the article that QBs have been attacking our "young" pieces of the secondary; now they can't just throw inside and get  a young guy.  They'll get a savvy vet instead.  Which makes offenses work harder and go through one more read to beat you.

I know you just started watching football about two weeks ago, so I understand your confusion.  It's just a shame that you made me do it in such an embarrassing fashion because you don't understand the game about which you talk so much ****.

Unfortunately, We cut Jack Williams to fit him in.Ive been burned questioning Josh McD before, but I cant make alot of sense to this. Our secondary is Ancient now, with a few who have been injury prone in the past several years.I more expected to see someone signed to maybe make some competition for the hole Harris left us with, on the line. This is a head scratcher move to me.Hillis not practicing, Williams cut......Is McD doing some housecleaning, getting rid of remnants from the Shanny era?

I love it when you are wrong about something.  All you can do is fling insults.  A rookie who costs both a number two and next years number one is expected to contribute and not get lit up like a Xmas tree.   Good thing you picked up a #1 in the Cutler trade who knows you may still need to draft a QB.

I would love for you to show me where I called it "a great move."  it can be a good move made in desperation.  Didn't know that?  Probably because, again, you have been watching football for roughly 8 weeks.

Good luck with your education. Study harder.

Easy now Moose...We dont need this one to goto the Smack Talk.

Some of his opinions have been questionable, but slammer has been mostly friendly.

I mean.....I honestly dont like the move, especially not at the expense of a very young player who has shown potential....Bascially I question if Law will be able to provide better coverage.

Part of me thinks its housecleaning by McD.

On one hand, there's a guy who barely saw the field last season because he wasn't ready, then laid an absolute egg last week in Baltimore.  On the other, a five-time pro-bowler who could have (and probably should have) been the MVP of the 2001 Super Bowl (if you'll remember, he took an interception to the house against STL and singleandedly turned the momentum towards the Pats).  Is he old?  Yeah he's old.  Not as old as Brian Dawkins, and he hasn't exactly been a liability.

He's bringing experience with winning and a much tougher, more-physical presence to our Nickel and Dime packages.

I don't see this as a really bad move like some folks here.  But maybe I'm just drinking the Kool Aid with my orange tinted glasses again. rolleyes

how dare I think our head coach knows what he's doing.

And if it's housecleaning?   I'm fine with that too.

Dude, take a chill pill.

This can quite easily remain a very calm discussion about a move our HC made.

You have very valid points. I've always liked Ty Law. Many call him a dirty player, but tell you the truth, its always easy to like a dirty player when he is being dirty for you.

And yea man....you'll notice I simply said I disliked the move, gave a few reasons, and left it at that. Josh McDaniels has more than shown his prowess. Im hoping that Ty Law can have a great season, assuming that our pass rush gets back to what it was.

Yea, Williams didnt see the field much last season, but 'they' say that the CB position is much like the QB position in that it takes several years for them to adjust to the Pro level.

As great as Law was/is, you can't deny that he is on the downside of his career, and, just like Dawkins, even if he plays at a high level(which I think he will, honestly) I see it as leaving us holes to fill down the road.

I've come to appreciate what having a young GOOD team means, tho I also appreciate what having the great Vets does also.

Someone asked why we couldn't keep him on the practice squad. Surely we could make room for a player, that until this week, had been on the active roster and seen playing time as Nickel corner? Thats the best of both worlds...Get Law in here for the present and let Williams develop..

Of course, mayhaps McDaniels and Nolan just didn't like what they saw in the kid, and want to go in a different direction.noidea

Like I said, at 6-1 our coaches have shown they know WTF the are doing. All we are doing is speculating. Again, noidea.

As far as housecleaning, I didnt mean it as an attack at all.....Just maybe looking for some reasoning behind some of these moves.

I hope it pans out and we come back strong against Pittsburg!

In order to put a player on the practice squad, you have to cut him from the active roster.  That's what they did.

If nobody takes a look, I would not be surprised to see him land on PS.

I guess I assumed we would see him going to the PS in the same article that we heard he was cut in, if that makes sense.

He has to clear waivers first.  If nobody puts a claim in on him by Tuesday, I think he's eligible for the PS.

Yea.....Thats right.

I had completely forgotten the waiver wire. Kudos, kudos.

I guess its not as simple as saying, "You can't play on our team no more," in the NFL huh?

Howdy boys, I was checking out the rules for the PS on wiki. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scout_team

I could certainly be mistaken but I don't think Williams is eligible because he's accrued more than one season on the 53 man roster.

Interesting.  Thanks for the post, C1J.

I didn't realize that was part of the criteria.

I do find it interesting that nobody's bothered to pick him up yet.  Not even the Bears, who have injuries and terrible play at DB.

I'm not prepared to write anyone off after 7 games in their rookie season but I am liking that pick a lot less every day (and I didn't like it much to begin with).  Giving up our first rounder this year when we could have just taken Sean Smith instead is not looking like a very good move right now.

Still, the kid is young and I remember one game this year where he looked like an absolute beast (Raiders or Browns game I think?)

Practice squad debate is now immaterial.  From Schefter's Twitter:

"Four teams put in waiver claims for former Broncos CB Jack Williams -- Cleveland, Detroit, Indianapolis and Philadelphia. Detroit got him."

Actually Ty Law played well tonight.  It was Champ Bailey that was suprisingly torched by Holmes.
