Did we need this loss?

Did we need this loss?

Ok, not trying to put some strange Uber-homer spin on this, but I can really see us taking ALOT away from this loss.

First off, we go ALL the way to the east coast, through 2 time zones for this ones.

No excuse making here, but us westerners struggle in these games, across the board.

2nd, they at home and coming off a bye... What needs to be said here?

I've had the Ravens down as true AFC competitors all season, even while their D was struggling...

They come to play, firing on all cylinders, including a devastating pass rush and great down-the-field coverage, and thats a tough team to beat.

I think its good they scored many points during the 2nd half. I think its good their Pass rush overwhelmed our O-line...

I think we got a REAL good taste of what it means to play against a top tier NFL team and get whooped.

I think it will bring us some humility and ultimately, more focus.

My hats off to the Ravens, they came to play and won a good victory here.

Im still WAYYYYYYYYY proud of 6-1, and very thankful our first loss DID NOT come against San Diego, or New England, or Oakland for that matter.

I would have like 7-0, but IMO we are still, "For Real."

Re: Did we need this loss?

I was talking to my buddy and we were saying before the game that our first loss will come against the ravens this week or the steelers next week.  We were actually just hoping we dont lose to both of them.  I assumed we would not go 16-0 and this schedule is brutal so having our first loss come in wk 8 is pretty ideal.  From my homer perspective i dont feel too bad about this loss... we would have to get it out of the way eventually (although it was brutal to watch).  Im hoping the team and coaches regroup and come out of the gates next week as we  prepare for the second half of the season.  I dont want this loss to turn into an avalanche of losses... we still have pitt, SD, NYG, Indy, etc... I think this will be good mid-season wake up call as we make our push through nov and dec.  No loss is good but some are worse than others...  We should be able to recover from this one as i dont see it being too detrimentail.

I watched some of the game.  IMO you should feel almost as bad as I did when the Steelers exposed us.  I have no  homer pipe dreams that the Chargers are going to the superbowl this year but I also have no nightmares that the Broncos will either.  Sorry but your QB still sucks in my mind and if you ever do get too far behind in a game he will not lead you to victory.  Time will tell.

You're right we might as well give up all hope now after 1 loss the season is over and we might as well get ready for the draft. Thanks for your insight buddy.

No I think your team will most likely win the divsion  and we most likely scrambling for a wild card spot. But if you think your QB1 will take you far in the playoffs then you must be the homer who predicted you would beat the Ravens 42-10!

I did think the Broncos would win. They didn't, but I'm not going to write anything off either because of it. Look at Arizona last year. Crappy team season before, rookie head coach, old QB, yet they made the Super Bowl when no one thought they had a snowballs chance in hell. So if you want to be a glass half empty guy go ahead, but don't try to bring everybody down around here.

You must be thinking I am a Broncos fan. Not!  Just making a point and shedding light on a bit of reality.

Dude you need to chill out on the hating.

Noone here is talking Superbowl. Noone here said Orton is a long term solution at QB. He might be, and has shown some good signs.

We are happy to be a fairly solid squad right now. Maybe you should be pondering your teams woes?

No kidding, you're not a Broncos fan. Who would've guessed it. Point taken and I was just making a point as well. If you want to be all doom and gloom go ahead I don't care, but don't try to drag us down around here because we lost one game. Do I really think the Broncos will make it to the Super Bowl....I don't know but they have just as good of a chance as most teams. So call me a homer or whatever, but until they are completely out of it I'll still have faith in my team while you may not.

Re: Did we need this loss?

Getting back on topic, I don't think any team NEEDS a loss.  Having said that, I think you can make positives out of a loss if its handled correctly, which is what I'm most interested in seeing from this team now.

I must say that I heard all the right things from McD in his postgame press conference.  As long as they recognize their weaknesses and understand where they can be exposed and strengthen those areas, I think they can turn some positives out of this loss.

What I learned from yesterday's game was: 1) special teams still needs a lot of work, 2) our offense is only good when it is running perfectly and yesterday it wasn't.  The running game wasn't clicking, pass protection was not what it had been and Orton doesn't provide you with any type of vertical threat.

I don't think we will see a win on Monday night, but hopefully we will keep it respectable.
