I'm lowering my wins from 8 to 7.  Mark it down.

Re: Allen is QB

I've seen many players get a shot and do very well regardless of lacking college experience.

The experience B Allen has can easily be replaced. The results of his redshirt sophomore year was negative. So we hear he has improved. On what scale is he being judged? Against our D wearing a green jersey?

This isn't a classic case if the second string QB being most popular, it's a classic case where I'm right again.

I wish him the Hogs much luck and say; show me.

While I have VERY low expectations (3 wins), I keep reminding myself of Clint Stoerner.  He looked BAD in 1997.  I had LOW expectations for him.  He turned into a very good QB in 1998 and 1999.

Re: Allen is QB

Allen has yet to show improvement.CBB said he showed improvement in the Spring, did anyone actually see it? Last year I said AUB was his best game he's ever played. I truly believe that, some on here claim LSU was his best game (as usual they are wrong), LSU was the TEAMS best game, AUB was Allen's. I believe he improved up to the AUB game then started regressing. The 6 and 7 wins everyone is predicting I've agreed with, but it isn't because Allen improved its cause other teams (such as AUB and aTm, NIU and TT) have got worse. Problem is 6 wins will give CBB the idea he was right about BA and two years will cost us a shot at the college playoff (no QB on the roster will have actual experience). Its hard for the majority on here to say me and Hip are right, but in this case (regardless of what CBB thinks) are back-up QB's need to start. PERIOD.

Re: Allen is QB

Difference is BA has been on the field for two going on three (he started when TW got hurt), and he actually has gotten worse since his very first drive as a Razorback QB. How much of the is because of no Petrino and no McGee I don't know, but CBB isn't known as a guy who turns below avg QB's into studs. Before anyone says anything stupid RW was a red-shirt SR who played in a more pass-oriented offense before going to Wisky.

I think the line will be much better, hoping the receivers are better, I do expect the running game will help take pressure off Brandon! Just got to wait and see.

Re: Allen is QB

I don't think the line will be MUCH better. Improved? Very likely, but they didn't play poorly last year, and it'll be hard to replace Swanson. The receivers, should be better, if not I'm going to start questioning Smith's expertise as that particular position coach. As for the running game taking pressure off BA, he's going to have to take pressure off himself. It wouldn't surprise me at all to see AUB stacking 8-9 guys in the box on the first snap. BA is going to have to hit open receivers, and they are going to have to bring the ball in, even if he's a little off. If not it's going to be another, man I can't wait to bball starts, season.

From what I'm hearing from one of the officers on campus these guys are much bigger now. Seems the weight training is having positive effects.
I'm counting on this to be the( much better) part of my statement.

Re: Allen is QB

Like all of us, I hope Brandon will be 100% better, if he isn't I going to yell a lot.  (At least that's what my wife says).  Plus I live in NW Arkansas again, my oldest son went to A&M and several of my golfing buddies are Missouri fans.  I don't know if I can take another season of pick sixes and having a quarterback that cannot throw the ball down field.  Heck, last year the coaches said Brandon was hurt all season.  If you remember his injury was diving into the endzone.  I'm sixty seven and I took a harder fall playing football with my grandsons and got up without injury.  If falling into the endzone caused his problem, we have a very fragile quarterback and he will not last five games.  If so, put in the other men and let them try to move the ball.  I hope you all know that Ty Storey is a complete stud and will save us in a couple of years, I have seen all of our quarterbacks throw and none of them have Storey's arm and presence on the field.

Re: Allen is QB

I agree with you there, last year, I made the statement I thought Bama's line was better because of their strength and conditioning program, and if our current coach stays he'd catch them up within a few years. They got close last year, maybe two will be all he needs.

Re: Allen is QB

I like your input, but I'm going to argue about Storey, I've saw a lot of film on Storey. I've yet to see him play anyone his size. Smaller, weaker competition makes everyone look better. Same thing happened to Peavey. I watched him play last year. He was a stud until he played a team that was the same size. Worst game of his season. In the AA game he kept wanting to scramble, but had guys that could stop him, playing against him. He might not be as good as we are hoping. As for Storey, until he gets here and plays, I can't say he's better, the competition will be a HUGE step up. Let's see how he plays against studs first.

Re: Allen is QB

Said it many times and I'll say it again - from the few people I know who have some access they say that the injury to BA last year really affected him and his ability to play the position without hesitation.   Is that true?  I guess we'll see this year.  If he's better and even much better then they will be right and of course ole Bake will spend the Fall eating hundreds of pounds of crow.

If not and he's still not very good then there won't be a train horn loud enough to drown out the sounds of Bake patting himself on the back and telling us how smart he is.

Re: Allen is QB

About Storey, I know his competition has not been the best but I am looking at him whenever he plays against much better players.  He has excelled against some of the best players in NW Arkansas, in Dallas and against top players in California in seven on seven events.  Most coaches think he is the real deal and the only reason he isn't rated a five star is because of the 3A level in an Arkansas high school.  Peavy looked good against lesser competition but failed to win a championship.  Ty was so good in the last state championship game that the mercy rule was invoked at the start of the second half.

Storey may absolutely be the real deal, but it was thought Winston was as well. He played against lesser competition and just outclassed them. We have to see his results on the big stage.

While true - I think some of Winston's fall was coaching, or the lack thereof.
