I'm upping my wins

8 wins this year.  Mark it down.

More from Bret

“If you sat down and interviewed my AD, I think he would tell you in every aspect other than wins, you can't do anything but be happy with what we've done,” Bielema said. “We've increased GPA, accountability, our APR. All those things are skyrocketing. Our kids aren't getting in trouble. We're doing positive things that lead me to believe they're learning and understanding what we're asking them to do. When that thing comes full circle, we're going to start to win. When we win, it's going to be able to maintain a winning style than this other thing that we've been living through.”

Well, it is hot in here Ricky.

How much do fans spend each year in donations, tickets , gear etc for GPA , kids not getting into trouble, APR etc ? I want wins and championships. Happy we have smart nice kids but so does Duke.

Maybe it is the fans who are not too bright.

I think we would have gladly traded W-L records with those Duke brainiacs last year. And they're expected to be pretty darn good this year too.

Not sure how well where going to do this year but I am excited as I have ever been. I think Coach is right, once we start winning we will maintain it. my gut say 6-6 my heart says 7-5. This season is about planting the flag. We will win some we should lose and lose some we should win and we go bowling!

There was a time when winning was the only thing, but no more.  A coach that does not establish a system of accountability and set a good example for his players will not last long.  Winning10 to 12 games is pointless if the team is banned from post season play. And what good is winning if you develop a reputation as a coach that no momma wants her son to have as a role model?

Obviously, wins are very important.  I think what many people believe is that it takes time to implement a system that covers all aspects of a player's time at a particular university.  Having a coach that can say that his players aren't hitting the hash pipe, getting drunk, getting arrested, or skipping classes will be an incredible boost for recruiting the kind of player that might not have Arkansas in his Top Five.

Mike Anderson has gone about things the right way, and I get the feeling we are about to see what it is like to have a team that expects to win because they have done things the right way.

I would not be at all surprised in three or four years to see both of our head coaches courted by other major programs.
This boy is Ignorance and this girl is Want. Beware them both, and all of their degree, but most of all beware this boy for on his brow I see that written which is Doom, unless the writing be erased.”  - Charles Dickens

I agree, 6-6 seems about right this year, but 7-5 is doable...anything less than 6 is a failed season.

I think anything less than 5 is a failed season. 5 is significant progress over 3 and means we won at least one conference game.

Ok Duke wasn't a great example. I know we have good kids who are hopefully doing the right thing. If we can get to a bowl game that would be great. I believe we have the toughest schedule in the nation so it's not likely. Maybe we surprise some folks.

I think Coach B. is a decent man.  I firmly believe he's trying to do things the right way.  I have my fingers crossed that he can take us bowling this year.  After that, If he sticks around I think long term he will do great things at Arkansas.  JMHO

Re: I'm upping my wins

Great Post!!!! Vince Lombardi, great coach that he was, was wrong with his "winning is the only thing" quote.

Working and preparing to win, working as hard as you possibly can, THAT is the most important thing. In sports and in LIFE. We cannot control results in life. We can only control effort and preparation. Dedication.

That's what I teach my daughter. And my students. Focus on the process. Relish the process. If the process is right, you can live with the results….even if the results disappoint.

I'm happy to see a post that says winning at the cost of loss of integrity is not worth it.

Refreshing.

Keep 'em coming.

All that said…Go Hogs! Beat Auburns ass!
