DirecTV and the SEC network

This is all I got when I asked about the SEC network on DirecTV.

I did want to address your concerns about the SEC Network. DIRECTV is in discussions with the owners of the SEC Network, which is set to debut August 2014. We will have more information as we draw closer to its launch date.

Sincerely,

Claudia
DIRECTV Office of the President

Well, it is hot in here Ricky.

$
I really like Directv.  I get the NFL Sunday ticket, full court, and game plan.  I'm sure they will get it done, but if they don't I think I'm going to switch.  I've been with DTV over 20 years.  Unless Maude lets me have 3-4 satellite dishes mounted to the trailer.biggrin

DirecTV has about one month left before I make the switch.

And if I go to the trouble to change, I'm not going back (at least not for a long time.)

Merger Still in the Works

between DirecTV and AT&T.  Antitrust hearing is tomorrow before the House Judiciary Committee.  Sure don't think any big deals will come out of DT until this clears the air.

If there is a govt' hearing, that should speed things up.  Right?

Re: DirecTV and the SEC network

I have been on DIRECTV for the last 20 years.  I am moving in mid July to a new home.  I have contacted DIRECTV about the SEC Network.  They said wait until July 7 before I make a decision.  In the meantime, I have scheduled AT& T to come install on July 19.  I am not taking chances with this.  DIRECTV needs to get on it if they value my business.

Is the SEC Network going to carry every Razorback game. Will Razorback games not be available on other channels i.e. local channels, ESPN, etc?

Re: DirecTV and the SEC network

Alarming

some quotes from other articles

War of words

DirecTV CEO Mike White once told Wall Street analysts on a conference call, according to Bloomberg, "If I could wave a wand, the first thing I would peel off is regional sports networks. The cost is just too high."

John Demming, a Comcast spokesman, would not comment on price other than to say Comcast was in negotiations with the SEC Network. "We're very optimistic we are going to have an agreement," Demming said.

Dan York, chief content officer for DirecTV, would not comment on the exact cost of carrying the SEC Network.

"We would certainly wish to carry the SEC Network sooner than later. Timing will depend on at what point do we feel we are getting a fair value proposition from Disney/ESPN to make it available," York said.

York, however, also said, "As popular as sports content is, the vast majority of consumers will not watch any national, regional or local sports network, yet the networks demand they pay a tax so that those who do want to watch it get access to it."

Well, it is hot in here Ricky.

Oh come now.  ArchiHawg doesn't know anything ceptin' how to pick winners.  biggrin

Games will still be on ESPN, CBS and ABC.  They have first dibs.  SECN will only air games not picked up by the national networks and then replays of all games throughout the week.

Re: DirecTV and the SEC network

The SEC network is a separate station, like Fox Sports SW (or whatever).  It is in the ESPN family, so games may be on ESPN3 or WatchESPN (and those two are not the same thing.)
