Strange Question

Strange Question

Why can't the SEC Tournament be hosted by Fayetteville? If it were there, Arkansas is almost guaranteed an NCAA automatic bid!!!

Seriously, can a member school host the tournament at their home gym?

I think it is contractually kept in B-Ham.  SEC decision and while there could be a rule, I'm not aware of one preventing it from being elsewhere.  As I understand it, it's just a decision made by the SEC for any number of reasons.

My bad - I was thinking about baseball when I read the note above.   Given that, my response is absolutely worthless.

Go Hogs.

RE: Strange Question

It's been in the Georgia dome the last several years I believe. I know it was there during the year that the tornado came through there during Arkansas game. It may have moved recently not sure.

Re: Strange Question

You'd think now that we're no longer the geographical fringe team (Mizzou more north, A&M more west), there would at least be fewer available excuses for not having it in Fayetteville (not that I'm aware of any excuses, just sayin').

I hate watchin' games in Vandy's gym. I know, I know, it's historic and great and traditional . . . but it's ugly on the TV screen, just saying!

Re: Strange Question

I just don't know of a better basketball facility in the conference than BWA. I know Rupp has more history and there may be newer venues, but the Bud seems to have the seating (not sure on luxury boxes), parking, and a very nice surrounding community that offers a ton of atmosphere for visitors, and northwest Arkansas is a beautiful part of the nation.

Plus, the Hogs would OWN that tournament (we've already beaten two of the best SEC teams in that building this year).

I don't think it would hurt the SEC at all to have another top-notch venue for the tournament.

Re: Strange Question

I would think objections from 13 other schools would veto any one team from ever hosting the tourney and having home court advantage.  Hence the 'neutral' of the Georgia Dome.  At least as neutral as it can get.  The Super Dome in New Orleans may qualify sometime.

Re: Strange Question

I know one factor they always use and that is hotel rooms available.
This would not be as tough as for the SEC football game, but I wonder if Little Rock  or Fayetteville have enough hotel rooms, restaurants etc. to accomodate the out of towners.

Re: Strange Question

Is it not at Vandy's arena this year? Or is at a different arena in Nashville. I know it's in Nashville, but just assumed that meant it was at Vandy.

And I think you're a tad off on how many teams are in the SEC biggrin

No Vandy plays at Memorial Gymnasium. The tourney is going to be at Bridgestone Arena.

Bridgestone Arena in Nashville this year ... next year Georgia Dome then back to Nashville.  Last year was at the New Orleans Arena (adjacent to the Super Dome.)

But now this post will be wrong on your next post because the post counter will update. Still, a better shelf life than most posts to the board.

Re: Strange Question

Bridgestone Arena in Nashville is home to the Nashville Predators and is one of the loudest venues in the NHL. Been to a ton of hockey games there and attended SEC Tourney the last time it was in Nashville. It has the Box Suites all the way around the Arena.  The Kentucky fans will take the place over.
