Mizzou and Arkansas, the perfect rivalry?
Interesting stuff. I think Arky and Mizzou will definitely become pretty heated as time goes on especially as long as Anderson is at Arky. http://www.secsmack.com/2013/02/the-perfect-rivalr y.html

Anyone who refers to Arkansas as "Arky" proves that they are an outsider and must be treated with suspicion.
In reference to the article, two points are worth noting. One, by coming to Arkansas, Mike Anderson came home. While it was surely hard on him to leave his Missouri players, Arkansas was home for 17 years and he couldn't turn down an opportunity to revive his mentor's legacy. Two, I like the mention that the Missouri game is sold out. The last time a big game with Missouri happened in Fayetteville, the year was 1993 and the seeds of a championship were being sown.

Re: Mizzou and Arkansas, the perfect rivalry?
Of course it's a great rivalry waiting to happen.
There were times, even when the teams were in different conferences, that the game sparked a lot of emotion and some bad blood. Anyone remember the "Antlers"?

Actually Kansas will always be our true rivalry. I would say we would just feel fortunate if we can get a win against you. Anderson did leave us in better shape, but still he left us and some of us who believed in him will never forget that.

They're not worthy.
If practice makes perfect, but no ones perfect, why practice??

Who really had a clue up here what was going on at that time. It would have been different if people would had an idea he was considering this. We lost out on some very talented in state recruits that year.

While I can certainly see things from your perspective; would it not have been worse if he had come out and said he was leaving? Just seems that recruiting would have been impossible under those circumstances. Not to mention that your AD would have been forced to fire him.
BTW, thank you for coming on our board and showing respect and class. I for one appreciate the effort.

There will always be fans that want the coaches head no matter how or when he leaves.

Re: Mizzou and Arkansas, the perfect rivalry?
Mike Anderson left a team that was poised to contend for a national championship to come home. Without his hostroy at Arkansas, there is no way he would have left those veteran players that he recruited. He had already tasted the Elite 8 at missouri, losing I think to the eventual national champions.
I thought the article was interesting, but it it really poor sports journalism to cite Missouri's successful regular season without mentioning the first round exit from the tournament. Essentially, Haith took the great team that Anderson built and accomplished nothing in the Big Dance. Also, comparing last year's Tiger team to the Arkansas team makes little sense either. Mike was rebuilding an Arkansas program that wasn't quite as bad as Missouri's when he took the Tiger job, but it was pretty close. We played a total of three NCAA tournament games in the past decade, winning one, after a decade in which we won more than a dozen and played that many more.
i think the rivalry will be interesting, and Missouri definitely has the edge going into the game at Columbia, but at no time we will ever look at Frank Haithe and imagine he's anywhere close to being the coach that Mike Anderson has proven to be everywhere he has coached. I think most objective basketball observers will agree.
It's OK to take a hike up crazy hill. Just don't camp out when you get there....

I Cringe at the thought of Mizzou as a rival
The conditions exist for a rival between the two schools. ( this was a good BBall game but my fear is football will suffer with Mizxou)
My resistance to Mizzou as a rivial is that a win over Mizzou does little to enhance Arkansas
Besides Mizzou's real rivial is Kansaw
That was a great rivialy - the national TV audiences waiting on the out come of that game was huge right? (Not)
I would rather play LSU - esply in Football - that game matters
My fear is a bye in to a rivialy with Mizzou (Which the SEC front office wants - another reason to resist it) is that a rivialy with Mizzou diminishes Arkansas
With Arkansas simply becoming Kansaw for Mizzou and a game no one cares about except in the Ozarks
It should be a great tailgate however - like going to Ole Miss - but LSU and a tailgate with the Corndogs is better
For Mizxou to become a rivial the series needs time and it has to mean something on a national level
My fear is a Mizzou vs Ark rivial will be about equal in national impact like Ark vs MSU which has been our lowest TV market game for several years now
While the football game with LSU has been our largest TV audience for the last decade - be ause the game means something - that took 20 years to build and now the SEC front office wants Arkansas to step down to Mizzou?
Maybe in time Mizzou can be a rivial - but that will take time - I'm not sold - but it is a good game like with MSU

Mizzou will be a more formidable Hog rival than MSU, IMO.

Re: I Cringe at the thought of Mizzou as a rival
In time you are correct - the elements to make Mizzou a good rival is there
But I fear it will be of no national consequence just like Mizzou vs Kansaw was
But yes the elements are there to make Mizzou a better rivial than MSU
This needs time to develop and the game needs to mean somhing
