Dude, leave his dad alone

clearly, he's trying not to say too much.  And doesn't want to say too much.  Just leave him be.

Re: Alex Collins seems like a class act

You are absolutely right, BE, that we need to take it easy on his folks.  (or at least try to keep the humor in good taste).  AC is clearly under no illusion about his mother's opposition to what he believes is in his best interests, but she is still his mother.

Many of the comments he has been making publicly seemed design to defuse the tension instead of raising the stakes.  Here's hoping the mom will soon get used to the idea of her son being a Razorback.  That will remove some of the stress he has been under.

From listening to his public statements and observing his composure throughout this ordeal, I've concluded that the young man is way above average on several levels besides football.  His social development and interest in academics separate him from many players who would have chosen to stay home in the bright lights of tropical Miami.

AC also mentioned today that he sees an opportunity to fight for early playing time at Arkansas.  When you combine that opportunity with the reputation that Bielema and company have for producing highly productive, big time running backs, the folks who aren't thinking clearly are the ones who think he should have volunteered to play behind an established young running back at a school that has an uncertain NCAA future.  Viewed in that light, the ONLY good reason to stay at Miami was that it was the place he and his family had always called home.

I did some reading yesterday on the subject of parents controlling the decisions of adult children.  Of the material I found, the best overall response was the suggestion that parents should always give their children roots and wings.  The roots give them a place they can always call home.  The wings give them the freedom and ability to make a home and a life for themselves.
It's OK to take a hike up crazy hill. Just don't camp out when you get there....

Roots and wings, dang, I really like that. As in, seriously, it's something I'll use going forward.

I've been very impressed with his poise throughout this whole ordeal.  He's handled it about as well as anyone could have, and his calm demeanor has been quite becoming of his nickname.  The fact that he has avoided making any attacks is impressive in it's own right.

I believe I could handle that situation as well as he has now, but when I was 18 - not a chance.

Thru all of the difficulty & adversity in this process, it says a lot about Alex Collins that he remained commited in his decision to come to Arkansas. He showed a lot of poise and class.

Wish him all of the success, on the field and in the classroom, at Arkansas.

Yeah he's impressive for an 18 year old kid. I would have been an idiot in this situation.

Yes, stood up in a polite and correct way without making it a negative. If this is the kind of players Bielema is going to bring WOW rankings be damned.

Definitely a solid young man. He didn't throw his mom under the bus ( although she has obvious issues ) and didn't waver in his decision. Beliema has done a great job. We came out of this years fiasco smelling like a rose. And Jeff Long deserves some credit as well. He went out and got a strong coach who appears to be the right guy to lead us forward.

When I was young I informed my dad that when I grew up I wanted to be a musician. Dad told me " Son you can't do both"

Re: Alex Collins seems like a class act

I am excited to have this kid as a Razorback as well.  I hope he does well while here at Arkansas, but no matter how his career goes he will be my favorit razorback on the field.  This kid through all the drama and criticism for coming to Arkansas stuck out his commitment. I feel horrible for the fact that he didn't get to announce his decision and sign like he had dreamed of doing, but glad he got to do what he wanted to do in the end.  This kid wanted to be a razorback and play for this staff no matter what it took.  Thats what we need as players representing this team.  I wish him the best and can't wait to see him run through "the A".

The ability to smile and show a sense of humor during the past two days is a very admirable quality.  This cracks me up:

Alex Collins

Now does that look like a kid who has been unduly influenced about where he wants to play football?

As far as his artwork is concerned, that's a pretty good approximation of the state of Arkansas if one has  lived in the tropics his whole life.cool

One of the few threads I've ever read in which I thought every poster had it right. Lots of gems there. Good going, folks!

One things for sure, nobody went through more or did more to affirm his desire to be a Razorback than Alex did. And yes, he is definately the type of person we want repping the U of A. I've been interacting with him on twitter for about 4 months now and have never seen anything but class, respect and grace. Very positive young man. intelligent. Well spoken and always polite. Definately a gem. All of the same can be said for Hunter Henry too. Dan Skipper too. Very high character young men. Proud of all our young Razorbacks.

He will definitely be one of my favorite players on the field. His attitude is awesome, he is already a winner, a class act and now a Arkansas Razorback! WPS!!!!
