FORMER COACHES SAY ARKANSAS QUIT ON TEAM IN 2012

Sorry if this has been discussed on another thread. I looked but couldn't find it.

This is a Sporting News Article just published I think saying that the former Arkansas coaches are saying Hogs quit in 2012:

http://aol.sportingnews.com/nc...ino-paul-haynes

A lot of it we probably figured happened, but hearing them say it is another thing.
Some of it is new information (to me anyways) and suggest players faked injuries too.
The x-coaches even said their take on the John L Smith hiring.

Very interesting and sad read.

Still soaking this one in.

It says:

So it is clearly new. At first I thought it was a redo of an older article but alas...

Of course they would say this.  They had to fix their resume.  The players didn't quite because they thought they would hurt their draft stock!  That's rediculous, if anything not playing hurt their draft stock.  If that was true Tyler would not have been playing.  By playing he had more to lose than any of them if that were true!  That is dumb and stupid on the parts of the former coaches to throw the players, Long, and Smith under the bus that way.  Sounds like some guys were covering their butts in those interviews.

It didn't look like they quit in the LSU game, that's for sure. Plus I think we would all say we got OUT-COACHED quite a bit this year. I have to question coaches making such claims when they called such terrible games.

I agree, funny how they blame everyone but themselves.  To throw the kids that they loved and enjoyed so much under the bus, i am so glad they are gone.  Wish them the worst! Sorry if that's too harsh, but I think its deserved!

All that says is a admission of lack of leadership and control

I never saw any quit out of this team. I did see some horrible play calling and game prep. I always thought they played hard under the framework they had to work with. Yes Tyler called some out. That's what leaders do. That's what coaches are supposed to do.

I saw it.  I also think it says more about the coaches than the players.  The preparation was bad and we didn't respond to adversity.  It's a new day - let's move on.

Sorry but Haynes and Petrino should be ashamed of themselves even if it where true. What was AD Long suppose to do give JL a 2 year contract as head coach? really! The freaking idiot brought it on his self. If the players quit it was because they realized the staff was dysfunctional why risk injury. The coaches lost the kids not the other way around.

It was an uncomfortable situation for everyone concerned. Plus we turned the ball over more this year than any other year I can recall. Also, both our offensive and defensive lines had numerous injuries and never really got into a rhythm. Also, after that hit against ULM, Tyler Wilson was never the same. He showed more courage than a Navy seal the way he kept getting up, dusting himself off going again the next play. I think he will be a sleeper in the NFL draft.

Re: FORMER COACHES SAY ARKANSAS QUIT ON TEAM IN 2012

Our former coaches should probably try a little harder to avoid excuses, but I doubt their job was very easy after what happened against LMU. If you recall, the second half of the LMU game not only included one of the greatest collapses in college football history, but also a couple of incidents where players had to be carted off the field while the crowd sat in stunned silence.  All the goals that had seemed so important and so attainable had the life sucked right out of them.

That's why I agree with part of what they are saying.  A lame duck head coach and coaching staff is not the ideal motivator for kids who are under the lawful drinking age. Sports psychology is a weird thing.

Arguably, the The time when coaching stability is needed most is during periods of adversity. When LMU's quarterback scrambled for a touchdown on the last play of the game, all the players knew full well that the entire coaching staff had a six month non-renewable lease.

Regardless of how it impacted them personally, I do hope they are not disparaging the character of some of our players based upon suspicion and innuendo.  Some of the players mentioned in that article did more for the U of A than any of those coaches ever did.

Re: FORMER COACHES SAY ARKANSAS QUIT ON TEAM IN 2012

Speaks volumes about a coach that seems so willing to throw their kids under the bus.  You can easily make the arguments that some COACHES quit on the team too, namely the two loudmouths in the article.  Paul doesn't have to look far, his own blood put us in that position. I see he's quick to blame Long though.

Regardless, that article will forever change my opinion of them and it wouldn't hurt my feelings if they never stepped back on the UofA campus again.

Good points but I think ... deep down ... we all knew it by April 10th.  The future head coach was not going to be hired until the end of the season.  It was too important of a hire to call a bandaid a cure.  And bandaids were all we had to chose from.

As you can imagine many Hogs took to Twitter last night.  Knile said it best though...

"The same guys who sacrificed their time and freedom. The same guys who gave their blood, sweat and tears for that hog on the side of that helmet. The same guys who skipped an opportunity of a lifetime by not entering the draft and came back knowing the risk. The same guys who battled to get that win in the Liberty Bowl in the freezing cold. The same guys that battled to get the school's first birth in the Sugar Bowl. The same guys that fought and won he Cotton Bowl. These same guys quit on one of the most anticipated seasons in Arkansas history? I don't think so. Not these guys. Not my guys. HAWG 4 LIFE."

Re: FORMER COACHES SAY ARKANSAS QUIT ON TEAM IN 2012

like I have posted.. Jeff Long did this.
He hired a coach who was not capable and gave him a contract that was designed to cause the issues mentioned by the article.
and if I remember correctly one of our QB's talked about players quitting on the field as well.
all kinds of levels of quitting.

100% disagree. Bobby Petrino caused this.
