And then Ole Miss is now paying him $ 4M+ for him being fired there; pretty salty to make over $ 7 M and not coach a game. Kinda sounds like Enron & AIG paying their folks outragious bonuses with the American Taxpayer's footing the bill.

I'm mad thinking about it. Gross money management and any who played apart in it isn't worthy of being employees or sitting on any committee for the U of A.

I was on deployment at the time of these events and just didn't remember anything said. I do remember us beating LSU the last game of the year and him quitting. Than the next day Ole Miss naming him coach. I just found it strange to pay for something like that.

You have to give HDN credit
This guy was so bad as a coach, he gets $7-8 million NOT to coach.
I wish someone would pay me to NOT do my job.

While I agree that it was handled badly when you look at how he hurt their program it might be worth it to try and figure out a way to pay him another $3,000,000 to be the HC at Alabama. Can't think of a way 'Bama would be as dumb as to fall for that and if their administration did I can't really imagine their fans bragging about it and coming onto the board to tell us how foolish we were to let him go but Long seems to work magic so maybe he can figure an angle.  ----

the way he and his family were screwed over at Arkansas he earned every penny. Ole Miss is paying because they got overly excited when he took them from last in the SEC West to back to back Cotton Bowl wins. Poor management on their part. I thought Chancellor White was the one behind the settlement, and also the one to announce at a press conference that the "Golden Handcuffs" had been removed.

BHH, Always love it when those not versed in contract law talk about how buyouts were "stupid" or this or that. Fact is we wanted Nutt gone and if we'd fired him without compensation it would have cost the UofA more than $3.5 in fees and an eventual settlement. It's a business decision. Did we have to pay him as much as $3.5, unlike you guys, I have no idea since I don't know what basis they used and what Nutt's contract said. Perhaps we negotiated poorly and could have paid as little as $2mill or perhaps we stuck it to him when he could have received as much as $5mill. But one thing is for sure, the UofA lawyers know a helluva lot more and were much better prepared to make the proper recommendations than you Holiday Inn wannabe lawyers.

Correct me if I am wrong? Coach Nutt got an annunity payment early and that is where the 3.5 came from? He had to coach 10 years to get that and Arkansas paid off early? It was White who removed the Golden Handcuffs and it did cost him his job shortly after?
