Fans to Fly 'Fire Jeff Ireland' Sign

Fans to Fly 'Fire Jeff Ireland' Sign

The Miami Dolphins have been mired in mediocrity for too long, and a pair of Dolphins fans are angry enough to do something about it.

Before the Dolphins take on the New York Jets on New Year's Day, a plane carrying a banner exhorting team owner Stephen Ross to fire general manager Jeff Ireland will fly over Sun Life Stadium.

Chris Joseph and Roger Paul, cowriters of the Miami Dolphins blog FinsNation.com, are two of Ireland's biggest critics. When Ross decided to fire Sparano but leave Ireland in place, the two were miffed.

So they did what any enterprising bloggers would do: solicited their readers for money so they could fly a banner expressing their frustration at a Dolphins game. It took the pair less than a day to raise the $1,500 needed to pay for the expression.

"Mr Ross:  Save Our Dolphins, Fire Ireland," the banner will read. "We just put it out there on Twitter, and the next thing you know it snowballed like crazy," Joseph told the Palm Beach Post about the idea.

The plane carrying the banner can fly over the stadium up to an hour on game days, so Joseph scheduled his flight between 10 a.m. and noon on the day of the Jets game, when the team is expecting a sellout. Joseph told the Post he plans to hold a tailgate watch party at the game to celebrate the fruits of his labor and his readers' donations.

"We put up a Paypal link, and within four hours we met our goal, just purely on donations," Joseph said. "We're just overwhelmed by people’s anger."

Joseph's animosity toward Ireland is simple: he does not think Ireland is capable of making the personnel moves necessary for the Dolphins to emerge from the basement of the AFC East. "We just don’t have faith in the guy," he told the Post.

Not that anyone thinks this gesture will change Ross' mind about his general manager. All signs point to Ross keeping Ireland around next year, though he may hire Carl Peterson as an additional voice in the personnel decision-making process.

"There's a feeling that he's going to screw up the draft again, or not get the quarterback that everyone wants," he added.

The banner may not result in the desired outcome for Joseph and Paul, but the fact that they will be able to let everyone know exactly how they and their readers feel about Ireland will be rewarding.

Idiot fans.  Thats what you get when people who dont know football flying off the hendle without thinking.  Ive already ranted about why we have to keep Ireland through the draft.  South Park had an episode about PBR.  I think this applies.

So true. Hell, we may ultimately find out that Ire is actually a really good gm a couple of years from now. This is just such a stupid idea.

Chzamp  I must disagree with you . Keeping ireland  for another draft is like saying  we dontmind another screw up , and this is our year  to get a qb .  why keep the idiot around   we can get another guy in the gm spot to  put together a good draft .  just hire a better guy and then just formulate the new draft plan .

lets face it    if we dont get a big name  coach and we dont get some skill players on offense then we might as well count on having a losing season next year.

lets get this freaking club on track already  we have spent too many years focusing on olinemen and seconday players

I f we fire Ireland now it will give us more time to plan ahead because its still a good 5 months away from  draft time.

more importantly  I dont trust Ireland  to fetch me a beer  let alone draft players ..  we need  Jon Gruden or Fisher   and if we had a qb  then cowher would come here.

last ,  Tampa bay is going to fire their head coache so Miami needs  to  Fire Ireland  soon or we will be having the same problems next year.  Hell i already  feel like I have aged ten years since the last draft .

Chzamp  even though i disagree with you  you are a smart dude  i will say that much .

those guys are right in doing that because   Ross  is no where near the level of owner that Wayne  H. was  so  that is why i disagree with you wheather it makes sinse or not  I dont trust Ross .

Re: Fans to Fly 'Fire Jeff Ireland' Sign

Ill paraphrase what I said in the other thread.  Its not that I want Ireland to run out draft again.  I want the information he and his scouts have been working on with some of these kids for their whole college careers.  Its what you DO with the information that counts.  If Billick is INDEED going to be our next HC, do you REALLY think he has a staff of scouts emplyed right now to step right in and give him the low-down on the leading rusher from Central Appalachian  State A&M?  I dont hardly think so.  Not unless he brings Mike Mayock from the NFL Network with him.  So what does that mean?  Billick comes in here on the fly and would have to start frp, square 1, when his main focus for the past couple years has been on breaking down NFL film.  Cant happen.  And this is a VERY important draft with the QBs to be had.  You cant **** this up and expect to be ok.
Take the INFORMATION Ireland and the scouts have and build a board from that.  Then on draft day, send Ireland to Chicago for sausage ham and pepperoni from Geno's East.  I dont need Ireland to RUN the draft.  I need his information.
If you fire Ireland now, you have an exhaustive search for a new GM.  Then the GM hires scouts and those arent just hangin around at the local BW3s waiting for a job.  Now you have a half-ass scouting dept trying to come in and get prepared for a draft.  Cant happen.  Keep Ireland.  Keep the information that he has.  Just dont let him order from the big boys menu.  Tell him you need him on the phone working deals and that ALL deals must be run by someone else to get approval.  No chance for sabatage.  No chance for Pat White Jr.    Then AFTER the draft, give him the 86 and find a REAL GM and let him build from there.

I'm not so sure about that.  I really wonder how much influence Parcells had while he was here.   It's clear that Parcells model was an outdated model that does not win in todays game.  This years draft was a pretty good draft top to bottom.  I'm still uncertain about Thomas but Gates, Clay and Wilson have all been conrtibutors and Pouncey could develop into a really good C.  I'm willing to give him the benefit ofthe doubt for another year and see him bring in some more talent.

I don't believe there is a GM who's had better sucess in FA in the last 2 or 3 years. His drafts are above average, they are not sexy but solid drafts. He didn't over pay for Brandon Marshall some think he got a good deal, killed the Horton deal when they were asking for to much. He tryed his best to get one of the best college coaches to come thur in some time. Guess he didn't turn us into a contender in 3 years like he said he would...carefull what you wish for you just may get it, next GM thur here could do far worse.
