RE: Scrimmage Scores

Rome ties Marietta 2-2 for the third straight year.
Rome was up 2-0 via a penalty kick and a nice close range half volley. Marietta's first goal came a little ways into the second half when a Rome defender scored a terribly unlucky own goal. Marietta then tied it up with about 10 minutes to go on a simple ground cross that should've easily been dealt with by the Rome defense. Was a simple communication error that I'm sure will get fixed up, those kinda things happen in a scrimmage. Rome was missing arguably their best player as well. We should be just fine this season.

Here's a video replay of the game: www.ghsa.tv/events/29969

Well, Pike County had a good run last year but must have lost a lot of talent as they fell to LaGrange High 4-0 in a Friday night scrimmage. LHS had two freshmen score.

RE: Scrimmage Scores

@RomeWolves21 It was a solid effort for a scrimmage. We have to clean up our shots as we put 33 shots up and came away with only 5 goals. The Coahulla keep did make some incredible saves and we hit the post 3 times. I hope the efficiency will come as we get more reps in practice. This wet weather has made for quite a challenge when it comes to finding enough dry ground to get some quality work in. We are no where near where we want to be yet, but I will say that I have never had a team work this hard at their craft and seem so hungry to be great. Time will tell. We look forward to traveling to Ridgeland and Dalton next week.

Sounds like Rome did very well and I would expect them to have another strong season.

Keep that inbox open. I am sure I will be in touch. I guess soon we will all have to move to the other board. Especially if they follow what Jack is saying and only keep Football and Basketball message boards here.

Re: Scrimmage Scores

@galnek33 Thanks for the kind words. I hope that we do have that sort of team and we will certainly get our chance at both of those schools. Dalton and SE are still the class of Whitfield County and they deserve a great deal of respect. Both programs are full of highly skilled players who are extremely well coached and prepared. It is so much fun to be a fan of soccer in this area. I know my guys would love to win in those matches with SE and Dalton, but i think that they are even more focused on doing well in 7AAAA. Next season will make those matches even more exciting as we will once again be together in a region.
I was impressed on Thursday with Coahulla Creek. They had some good young players(2 of them were talented freshmen for us last year that had to go to CCHS) and I would imagine that they will be very competitive in their AA Region.

Our guys are excited about next Wednesday but we are first focused on heading over to Ridgeland on Monday and testing out our turf shoes.

Re: Scrimmage Scores

@bruin
That would be amazing if that all the local area teams would be in the same region. it would of been more exciting to watch soccer since yall recently tied with dalton last year. im sure the region would of been more competitive.!

For a fact, dalton has to much talent that could be use elsewhere.
A good some of people that didnt make it this year could of gone somewhere else(school)and made it.But it sad seeing good talent gone to waste because of the competition there is at dalton. Also i heard the coaches have favorites on picking the team.

RE: Scrimmage Scores

If I'm not mistaken, didn't all the Whitfield teams used to be in the same region in 2007/2008?

Re: Scrimmage Scores

Your post about Dalton and it's coaches has some accuracy and some gross misinformation. True there is a lot of talent. 70 + kids tried out. Some good players who didnt make the team could play at other schools in northwest ga. However, I can assure you there is no favoritism in who the coaches pick. It is a decision that they take extremely serious. To be able to include everyone would be great but not possible. I have heard they are carrying 27 varsity players to include as many as possible. The coaches have been there a long time and have had successful programs the whole time they've been there. They are all dedicated to the sport and their school. I read they have 8 returning starters from a strong team last year, maybe those are favorites but they are proven veterans. I have also heard about several young players playing varsity who are exceptionally talented. Best of luck to the cats and their coaches. Best wishes to all nw ga teams, keep representing our area so well.
