Kamal Cass???

Anybody seen this Clovis Wildcat in person yet?

http://nmpreps.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1509382

They say he had 8 touchdowns Friday night. And they say NMSU is trying to recruit him.

I have not heard of him til now. Sounds like a good one.

Maybe Momma Cass will send him to Cruces?

I sure hope so.

Re: Kamal Cass???

According to his High School coach he has received ZERO interest from anyone. That was what he said Friday after the loss to Rio Rancho where he rushed for over 300 yds and 8 TDs.

Re: Kamal Cass???

I think what is hurting him is the fact that he isn't very big. But you never know. NMSU and UNM might offer late.

According to this article linked above Cass is being recruited by many schools, which is what I believe to be true.

I want to personally work on my size, gaining more weight, becoming stronger, faster, and more well rounded because I know that is what it's going to take to reach the next level." Said Cass who is being recruited by New Mexico, New Mexico State, UTAH, and even some BCS Schools such as Arkansas, Florida, and Alabama.

Does anyone from this board know if we are recruiting Cass or not?

Re: Kamal Cass???

Just because a kid scores 8 touchdowns in a NM high school football game does not make him a D1 prospect. JJ Granados from Las Cruces High scored 8 tds in a game last season (he was a jr last year) and there are no D1 schools knocking at his door. Cass MIGHT be a D1 prospect but due to lack of D1 football players in NM you cant go just on stats.....whats his 40 time? hows his work ethic? how are his grades? etc., etc.,

I hope NMSU gets Cass. Remember the last time NMSU gaot a RB from NM that was too small
to play D1 ball? Young man named Chris Williams. he turned out to be a third team All American.

Re: Kamal Cass???

Yes he's the type of player that can be a diamond in the rough for NMSU. A little smallish, but thats ok. He could help us immediately returning kicks with his 4.47 speed. We need play makers any way we can get them.

I doubt this kid is being recruited by any BCS schools let alone the one he has mentioned. His highlight video, while may play to fans of HS football in the state of New Mexico. It is probably doing more harm than good if college coaches are watching it. This is a good player but its New Mexico teams he is playing against. And if he is 5'10, which I doubt, he is playing against players that must be 5'6" in some of those scenes. Plus, he shows he doesnt have D1 speed let alone a 4.47 More like 4.8.

Dont shoot the messenger just the reality of it. I hope the kid gets an offer but in reality he has to do more than what he has done and if a recruiter comes to his school and he isnt 5'10 and 175, its a wrap for that school and more. His coach needs to reach out to some FCS schools to try and get an offer there first. If he was in Los Angles and was that small it might be over looked because he is doing it vs teams that have other D1 athletes on them. But the lack of speed would show up big when would get ran down by true 4.5 kids.

Not fair but real. IMO He needs get rid of that self serving highlight video and have a company that does it right with a proven track record of success in getting player noticed. Have them make one for his early season highlights now because recruiters are already getting onto 2015. Most of those companies will also give him a true realistic evaluation of his skill and skill set. And I am not talking about paying a crazy amount of $$ Maybe $100 for the highlights.
Good luck to the kid.

It was posted on an interview on NMPreps by the moderator who has a great relationship with Coach Roanhous. No reason for the MOD to say he wasn't being recruited. He tries to get recognition for all NM high school athletes.

Re: Kamal Cass???

I am glad the coach and the moderator have a good relationship. I am assuming that the Coach you named is the kids HS Coach. More importantly, the coach needs to have good relationships with college coaches. I am sure he does.

Bottom line is that nobody is going to talk a College coach into offering a kid. The beauty is in the eye of the beholder. So, where one coach may love the kid another may hate him. My point is that the recruiting classes for 2014, most are already half full. And most teams targets are already 6 deep on their board at each spot.
NMSU has 2 commits at RB that appear to be better than this kid. Not saying those RB are better but they have offers and thats how its judged. Not likely NMSU takes 3 RB's but I could be wrong. But the national site are the ones he needs to get 247 Rivals etc. With that many yards last year he should already had offers as a junior.
Best of luck to the kid. Like I said also, dump the highlights that are on here and get new ones. From an company is LA like Under the Radar or Someone. But he needs to be ready to get an honest true assesment that he may not like but it will be accurate. FCS DII NAIA etc

Re: Kamal Cass???

Kid can play! Take it from someone who has seen him multiple times in 2.5 years
Hes fast, shifty and wants to win. I say if you likes ronnie daniels, youll like cass.
One rule ive learned in 30 years of football, where your from , size has absolutely nothing to do with talent.
Get him, rb, punt returner, slot...biggrin

Re: Kamal Cass???

I am not saying he can or cant. But he is playing vs kids that are not D1 kids. So he has to get in front of every coach he can. Forget about the BCS and D1 schools for now and try FCS. Its not up to me its up to college recruiters and size does matter to 125 of the 125 FBS colleges. Not as much to FCS and so on. If he is serious in getting a ride he will contact Under the Radar Sports Media soon. He needs to just Google them. If he doesnt comntact them then he isnt serious.

If he is 5'10-175 with 4.45 speed,he will get a few D1 offers.

RE: Kamal Cass???

Blah blah blah! This is why this program sucks! We will go out and offer the 900th rated player in Texas before kids like Cass and the French kid from Goddard. These are the best two athletes on the state period and should have been offered a long time ago! They don't play anybody in high school has become such a lame excuse! Lets keep on recruiting Texas because its worked so well! We've been doing it for 25 stinking years and it hasn't worked! But hey if you do it long enough it will right? Kids like Cass and French not having offers shows what a joke this program is!

RE: Kamal Cass???

Martin has offered at least 4 NM kids that I know of from class of 2014. Whens the last time a Aggie coach offered 4 kids NM kids in one season? So lets make our entire roster of NM kids? eek1

There may be things we are not aware of - academics, for example.  If an athlete can't qualify or if he is one year and flunked out it doesn't help. It could be something else. We don't really know what has been looked at or done.

To call Martin and the program a joke because he hasnt offered this kid is really out of line. I mean he already has offered 4 NM kids and to me that equates to pushing for in state kids.
There are other colleges that are out there. Why have they yet to offer. I will tell you why, because the players he is going against are 5'3" and slow. Plus the good school he played last year Las Cruces he had 123yds. If he busted for 300 on that team then that would give him more cred.
My point is he cant just look to one college and think it will happen he has to push for others. And get an FCS offer first then go from there. Like I said his parents need to get to that Under Radar company to do his highlights. And if he likes him he will push him. Every college FBS FCS follows his website and he KNOWS everybody.  Plus RB is a tough position to get a ride anyways. I did my part to help this kid. good LUCK

Cass is NCAA qualified. He is a smart young man with a good head on his shoulders. Model citizen and student.
