Danny Manning

If we can't get an established coach and have to go for an up-and-comer, what do you think of Danny Manning?

Local ties
Great lineage
Played in the NBA

Re: Danny Manning

If we cannot land one of our top 5 choices, Wake's best option might well be to choose a candidate like Manning.

He knows winning at the college level.  I am most interested in hiring either a head coach or an established assistant from a winning program. I mean by that a program that has a history of winning beyond one or two recruiting classes.  Winning programs know something about winning that everyone else is trying to figure out.

Manning would be a solid choice. Very solid.

At best, Danny Manning is the epitome of a briefly, but tantalizingly, shiny object. There are not enough data points to call him solid. NBA experience is not desired here...

Manning would be a massive gamble.  As much as I detest the idea of hiring Mack or Kelsey, they're probably both safer choices than Manning.

At the end of the day it's going to be Mack, Kelsey, or Archie Miller.  I just don't see us landing a home run hire.  I would love to be surprised.

Why would Manning be any more of a gamble than Kelsey?   They have both coached D1 hoops for 2 years.  Tulsa is a higher level program than Winthrop and he has made the NCAA tournament.  CUSA had 5 top 100 kenpom teams and the Bsth's highest ranked team was 183.

Manning has alot more name recognition than Kelsey.  He has a little less asst coaching experience, but that was under Bill Self, one of the top coaches in the game, at Kansas.

Now Mack and Miller, I agree, but Manning seems to be one of the better plan D choices.

I have a feeling that Manning could do some recruiting, and his two years have been solid.  Don't want Mack or Kelsey.
