Chargers Off-Season Moves

Dumping ground for the moves we make between now and the draft.

Larry English Contract Officially Voided Today:

Also, looking at Compensatory picks, it looks like a 7th rounder only. Which sucks considering we lost Vasquez. Sigh. When they start figuring out which compensatory pick we might get, they negate matching contracts of players lost and players signed. While the Cox pick REALLY didn't pan out (and was the highest matching contract that negates the Vasquez loss) it seems as though the Ingram injury and subsequent Freeney signing (4.4 mil and on IR) hurt us the most. Boo.

Youre not alone there on that point my friend. You would think with Vasquez making the Pro Bowl that a higher comp pick would be in order. Lets see how it plays out when the league officially awards them, not by what some website says.

The website has been incredibly accurate over the years. And, sadly, Slammer is correct - we generally get screwed in these picks. I think the Freeney signing hurt us in more ways than having a player on IR.

Thing is, Tyronne Green isn't accounted for, and he was the starting LG

Starter for whom? The Pats put him on IR before the start of the season. In terms of compensatory picks, I'm not sure all the details, but I don't think Green's signing with the Patriots falls under the rules for compensatory picks anyway (article lists all the exceptions). Would be great if you're correct.

I must give credit where credit is due. 88 called this Exact scenario where we Should get some fair comp picks but
the pre- infected Charger virus gets inputed into the draft computer and we get the Royal Rogering!

We will get a 7th round = screwed, and the Pats will get a 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th just because they are the Pats.

Re: Chargers Off-Season Moves

He was a starter for the Chargers.  Rhinehart replaced Green as the starting LG.  Ornberger replaced Dombrowski.  Vasquez was replaced in-house by Jeromey Clary.  I do not see how they do not receive compensation for him.  Also, they should get a comp. pick for one of the corners.  I am pretty sure that the position matters.  I guess we'll find out when the list comes out.  Who am I to argue with a guy that has been accurate, it just doesn't seem to be an all-encompassing list of who they lost and who they signed, where is Spikes?  They didn't re-sign him, right?  It seems to me that there are a couple Bolts missing, which could add the extra picks.  But, again, who am I to argue?

Oh, I see what you mean. Though I think the article includes only those players that fall under the appropriate categories. Apparently Spikes and Green do not. Teams don't get compensation for every player whose contract ends and is let go.

RE: Chargers Off-Season Moves

Signing Cox nullifies the loss of Vaz. It's about money, not talent,

Signing Freeney probably nullified Phillips too.

I'm surprised we got anything, the 7th is probably for Franklin or Barnes.
